Eagles Remain Undefeated Against Ranked Yotes

CALDWELL, Idaho - The Northwest University volleyball team won their seventh straight game against No. 10-ranked College of Idaho in the Eagles' fourth sweep of the season.

The Eagles completed their non-conference tour unbeaten with a hard-fought win against Whitworth in Spokane last Saturday. On the same day, the Yotes defeated the University of Saint Francis (Ind.), 3-1, in their final tournament match at the College of Saint Mary in Omaha.

The first set started off with the Yotes gaining a five-point streak, allowing them to gain the upper hand early. However, the Eagles managed to turn it around after being down 13-8 with a 9-1 streak. The Eagles then finished off the set with a five-point streak of their own to win, 25-19.

To start the second set, it was the Eagles this time who jumped at the early lead with a 4-0 start. The Eagles would continue to dominate the set with two three-point streaks and a six-point streak. The Eagles would dominate the set and finish with a 25-16 win.

The final set began with the Eagles once again on the right foot, going up 5-0, but the Yotes kept their wits about them and clawed their way out to the lead, 20-15. The Eagles then rallied a 6-1 streak to launch themselves to the tie. The comeback came full circle as the Eagles rallied one more time for a 3-1 streak that sealed the sweep for the Eagles, winning the final set, 25-23.

Aubree Dees tallied nine kills and three aces, and Morgan Harter supplied 24 assists and 11 digs for the night.

"College of Idaho is a terrific team with an explosive offense, and we knew it would be a challenge to compete with them on the road," said Head Coach Steven Bain. "We struggled with our composure early in the match and challenged our ladies to win first contact and once we stabilized in serve-receive we were able to side out and score points.  As well, we had a good serving plan entering the match and credit our ladies for executing the plan when the match was on the line. You don't have time to celebrate wins in the CCC though because we face a very talented and formidable Eastern Oregon team tomorrow."

The Eagles will travel to La Grande, Oregon, tomorrow for a matchup against Eastern Oregon at 4:00 PM.
