PORTLAND, ORE. - The Northwest University women's soccer team defeated Lewis & Clark College, 3-2, after four goals scored in the first half.
The Eagles squeaked a 1-0 win on Labor Day against Park University Gilbert at La Grande, Oregon, while the Pioneers have had a rough start to the season, entering this game winless and coming off a loss against Chapman University.
The first half started with a goal from Carli Driskill of the Pioneers just at the nine-minute mark. The Eagles got one back at the 18th minute from Rachel Snow. Then six minutes later, Kennedy Leach got the Eagles on top, with Sara Becerra coming in with the assist. The Pioneers bagged their second goal by Riley Yip in the twilight moments of the half.
Two minutes into the second half, Kiersten Hendrickson secured the game-winning goal for the Eagles, with Sara Becerra contributing the assist. The Eagles' offense continued to apply pressure with 21 total shots and nine on target. Katie Snow stopped six shots from the total eight on target.
"Happy we closed out our non-conference games with a win today," said Head Coach April VanAssche. "We had some great possession play today and some solid defending! Looking forward to the next two weeks and preparing for the first weekend of conference games!"
The Eagles will get to rest next weekend, then will travel south to Klamath Falls on Friday, September 19, against Oregon Tech.
