KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University fell just short in a back-and-forth thriller on Friday night, dropping a 79-75 decision to Oregon Tech. Despite trailing at the half, the Eagles utilized a strong surge early in the second period to lead by as many as six points. The contest remained a one-possession game for much of the final minutes, but Northwest was ultimately unable to overtake the Owls in the closing moments.
Trent Williams led the Eagles' offensive effort with 16 points, hitting 3-of-5 attempts from beyond the arc while grabbing eight rebounds. Andrew Iyamah provided a major spark off the bench, contributing 15 points and three steals in 25 minutes of action. Logan Stempniak also reached double figures with 12 points, and Lucius Fox anchored the defensive glass with eight rebounds.
"Really proud of how hard our guys competed tonight against a very good OIT team," stated Head Coach Rick Skeen. "We didn't have the answer defensively for Jackson Cooper; he is a tremendous player."
Northwest showcased significant depth throughout the night, with the bench outscoring Oregon Tech's reserves 16-0. The Eagles also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Owls 38-32, and they converted 10 three-pointers as a team. However, Oregon Tech's 52-22 advantage in points in the paint proved to be the difference in the final outcome.
The Eagles continue the weekend battle, playing Southern Oregon Saturday night to continue conference play.
