KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Northwest University women's basketball team earned an 89–70 victory over Bushnell University on Friday evening, using a strong second quarter to take control of the contest.
After trailing 19–15 at the end of the first quarter, Northwest outscored Bushnell 26–8 in the second period to take a 41–27 lead into halftime. The Eagles continued to build momentum after the break, scoring 24 points in both the third and fourth quarters to secure the win.
Kaleah Medeiros led Northwest with 24 points, shooting 9-of-13 from the field and 4-of-5 from three-point range while adding five rebounds and three assists. Ella Whitaker followed with 20 points, five assists, and three rebounds, including a strong second-half performance. Jersey McGehee added 17 points and four assists, knocking down five three-pointers.
Northwest shot 3.2 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range, while totaling 23 assists on 33 made field goals.
Head Coach Randall Edens praised his team's response and depth following the win.
"Such a fun atmosphere for our young ladies in a game we needed to have. Critical for where we want to go, but we rose to the occasion like we needed our young group to do," Edens said. "I thought Ella Whitaker was magnificent in the second half, and Kaleah Medeiros played her best game for us as an Eagle. Ellie Bost also gave us a constructive line in a style of game that is suited for her and her play. Our three post players helped support us well. Griffyn Eyman, Taimane Auwae, and Katie Snow were so critical dealing with the foul trouble we had and gave us such positive minutes that helped us with the big win."
Northwest will return to action tomorrow as it continues conference play against Corban.
