OLYMPIA, Wash. – Northwest University picked up an 82-74 road victory over Evergreen State College on Tuesday night, using a strong first half and late-game execution to secure the win.
Andrew Iyamah led all scorers with 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting, adding four rebounds and a block. Lucius Fox recorded 19 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, finishing 7-of-14 from the field. Ethan Martin added 14 points off the bench, shooting 6-of-12 overall.
Northwest controlled the paint throughout, outscoring Evergreen 31-24 inside and outrebounding the Geoducks, 46-33. The Eagles also finished with 20 assists.
Evergreen made a push midway through the second half, tying the game at 64-64 with 6 minutes to play after a three-pointer. Northwest responded on the next possession and regained the lead for good. A layup by Iyamah with a minute to go made it 74-71, and a basket from Fox shortly after extended the margin to 76-71.
The Eagles closed the game at the free throw line, going six-for-six in the final 39 seconds. Shane McGaughey-Fick knocked down two free throws, Trent Williams added two, and Logan Stempniak converted two more with 18 seconds to seal the 82-74 final.
As a team, Northwest shot 47.0 percent from the field and held Evergreen to 40.0 percent shooting. The Eagles also converted 20 points off 13 turnovers.
With the road win, Northwest continues to build momentum heading into the final stretch of conference play this weekend.
