TACOMA, Wash. — The Northwest University men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Tacoma to compete at the PLU Open hosted by Pacific Lutheran University on March 13–14.
Despite challenging weather conditions throughout the weekend, the Eagles turned in several strong performances across both days of competition. Snowy conditions on Friday and cool temperatures on Saturday did not slow the team down, as multiple athletes recorded solid marks and continued building momentum early in the outdoor season.
On the men's side, Northwest finished seventh overall in the team standings with 43 points, while the women placed ninth with 21 points.
One of the highlights of the meet came from
Josiah Jaquith, who recorded a personal best performance in the 5k, with the time of 15:09.02, leading several strong efforts from the Eagles throughout the weekend.
Head Coach
Mark Mandi was proud of the way the team handled the difficult conditions and continued to compete at a high level.
"Loved seeing the attitude of our team, whether on a snowy Friday or on a chilly, sunny Saturday. I thought we showed up and competed with a lot of grit. For Josiah to run a personal best in that weather was awesome, and efforts like that were all over the place."
Across the meet, Northwest athletes competed in a variety of sprint, distance, and field events, gaining valuable early-season experience as they continue preparing for the upcoming meets in the outdoor season.
The Eagles will now look ahead to their next competition as the outdoor schedule continues.
