KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University men's soccer earned a 2-1 victory over Simpson University Friday afternoon at the Northwest University Athletic Field.
Matthew Ludlow opened the scoring for the Eagles in the 36th minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from Roland Ngoy. Northwest carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Simpson equalized in the 60th minute when Ariel Perez-Aviles scored off an assist from David Guerrero.
The Eagles regained the lead in the 83rd minute as Ludlow scored his second goal of the match, this time assisted by Clayton Johnson, to put Northwest ahead 2-1.
"Proud of the guys today for how they managed the game for 90 minutes," said head coach Gary McIntosh. "Matt came off the bench and scored two goals. He had a great impact on the game. We were unfortunate not to find the back of the net a few other times. This gives us some momentum heading into our first conference game next Friday. Overall, a good day. Back to work on Monday."
Northwest finished the match with 15 shots, including six on goal, while Simpson recorded nine shots and four shots on goal. Bailey Hopkins made three saves in goal for the Eagles.
With the victory, Northwest improves to 2-1-1 on the season.
The Eagles return to action Friday, Sept. 18, hosting Southern Oregon University at 3 p.m. at the Northwest University Athletic Field.
