Eagles and Warriors Tie After Two OTs

Acacia Johnson scored the lone goal for Northwest today
Box Score SALEM, Ore. – The NU women scored early and the Corban women scored late in regulation today as the teams battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw in CCC play.

It looked as though the Eagles would score more than one goal as Acacia Johnson put NU up 1-0 just 56 seconds into the game. But, the Corban defense toughened and held NU scoreless for the next 109 minutes. With time running down and just 33 seconds remaining in the game, Corban's Audrey Sullivan took a long shot from the near sideline which got past NU goalkeeper Patty Hughes and into the upper right corner of the net to knot the score at 1-all and sending the game into overtime.

Northwest (6-5-1, 2-0-1) had 4 shots to Corban's one in the overtime periods, but could not get one to get past Corban goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mendenhall. The Eagles had three corner kicks in the overtime periods, but couldn't manage a score off their set pieces.

NU's Patty Hughes played all 110 minutes in goal, giving just one goal and grabbing 4 saves. Mendenhall also played the entire 110 minutes for Corban (6-5-2, 2-1-1 CCC) and saved 3 from getting into the net. Northwest outshot the Warriors 14-11 and had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

"A disappointing game for us today," stated Val Seid, Eagle head coach. "We had a lot of opportunities to finish the game and came up just a little short. Corban was tough but our ladies kept at them and were relentless the entire game."

Northwest U. returns home and will have another tough test at home this week as they host the College of Idaho an Eastern Oregon on the NU Athletic Field.
