Weaver's Golden Goal Lifts NU Over Yotes

Jacob Weaver (#18) scored the golden goal and Adam Loga (#23) with the assist.
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Neither team could score in regulation but it took only 56 seconds in the first overtime for Northwest University to earn a tightly contested 1-0 victory over the College of Idaho this afternoon under cloudy skies. Freshman Jacob Weaver took a through ball from teammate Adam Loga up the middle, beat his defenders and scored from 17 yards out and into the right side of the net.

Neither team would be able to convert on opportunities as the defenses held strong and goalkeepers Colin Benham-Marin (C of I) and Joe Galbraith (Northwest) would yield a goal. Benham-Marin stopped 5 Eagle shots and Galbraith grabbed 7 Yote shots on goal to keep it a 0-0 tie through 90 minutes.

Northwest (11-4, 9-2 CCC) outshot the Yotes (4-11, 4-7 CCC) 10 to 5 in the first half and the Yotes turned the tables and outshot NU 10-5 in the second period as they controlled the latter portion of the half as they took 9 shots in the final 21 minutes of the game while holding Northwest without a shot.

It was Adam Loga finding Weaver between two defenders up the middle 56 seconds into the extra period and Weaver did the rest splitting the two, dribbling past them and then finishing with a right foot blast past keeper Benham-Marin and into the right side of the net for the win.

"Great win today, I'm proud of these players!" Said Eagle head coach, Gary McIntosh. "The guys had to play through the fatigue from yesterday's game and just find a way to win. They put in the work to give themselves a chance to win the game and that's all we ask of them. Joe (Galbraith) and the defense again were outstanding in getting the shutout as Joe just keeps making big saves for us. In overtime, we made a formation change and that opened up space just below the forwards and Jacob made a great run and split the defenders for a terrific goal."

Northwest U. will travel to Portland on Tuesday to play Warner Pacific in a night game at 7:20 p.m. The College of Idaho will remain on the road and will be at Corban in Salem on Nov. 1.
