Simpson Takes Two From Eagles

Box Score REDDING, Calif. – Simpson University (RV) swept an afternoon doubleheader from Northwest University, 7-1 and 1-0 in non-conference play. It was only NU's third and fourth games of the season having endured 12 cancellations due to the weather.

Game 1 – Simpson scored two runs in the first inning to take the early 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the 5th, Simpson's Courtney Thomas hit a 2-run home run to deep left after Ryan Norton's double had scored Aleisha Brown from second. NU got on the scoreboard in the top of the 6th after Ricki Tacdol's single  to left scored Hanna Chaffin. SU would get two more runs in the bottom of the 6th  as Katelyn Bell would earn the win limiting the Eagles to 5 hits.

Game 2 – The second game would turn out to be a pitcher's duel as Northwest's Kiertson Perry would limit the Red Hawks to 4 hits and Paris Hallums would limit the Eagles to one hit. Simpson would score the lone run of the game in the bottom of the 4th inning when Courtney Thomas' single to left field would score Marissa Bravo-Barajas from second base. NU would get their lone hit in the top of the 5th when Katelyn Riedinger would get on base with a bunt single.

"I have to give credit where credit is due," stated NU head coach, John Bacon, "Simpson's pitching staff and defense kept us in check. We were making hard contact but it was right at their defenders. Even though we came up short these games give me hope for our season. Simpson will be a top 25 team and we hung with them every step of the way. Tomorrow we need to come out and be aggressive on offense and give our pitchers some support."

The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 1 p.m. in another doubleheader.
