Simpson Doubles Up on Northwest

Box Score REDDING, Calif. – For the second straight day, Simpson University (RV) swept a doubleheader from Northwest University to improve to 19-3 on the season taking the first game 6-1 and the second, 10-3.

Game 1 – Simpson (18-3) put together a big 5th inning bringing five runs across home aided by two NU errors. Ryan Norton's single scored two Redhawks and Chelsea Dunn knocked in another with her single to right field. NU got one run back in the top of the 4th when Kierston Perry singled to center scoring Katelyn Riedinger. But that would be the only run Northwest (0-5) would score as Simpson pitcher Carlye Avey would limit the Eagled to just two hits and she would strike out six for the victory. Kelli Peckham took the loss for the Eagles on the mound. Katelyn Riedinger and Kierston Perry had the two hits for the Eagles.

Game 2 – Simpson got off to an early start putting two runs on the board in the bottom of the first highlighted by Ryan Norton's triple which scored teammate Kaylana Mah from second base. Northwest came back to tie the game in as Sarah Payne and Mallory Tacdol would put together back-to-back singles and would later score on Katelin Lewis' single to center.

The Redhawks (19-3) would come back to score one run in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th inning and then score 4 in the bottom of the 5th. Singles by Marisa Marmolejo, Melissa Silveira, and a two run single by Ryan Norton would put Simpson up 9-2. The Eagles (0-6) would score one run in the 5th on Sarah Payne's double to center bringing Katelin Lewis in to score. Katelyn Bell would come in to relieve Amy Rodriguez in the final two innings to close out the game. Katelin Lewis and Sarah Payne both went 3 for 4 for Northwest U. Lewis had a pair of RBIs and Payne had one.

Said John Bacon, NU head coach after the games, "There's a reason Simpson is nationally ranked and should climb higher in the next NAIA poll. They are playing well right now with the hitting and pitching to be successful. Having 22 games under their belt is also a plus. We've played six now and will return home to prepare for our conference opener this Friday. I'm confident our team will improve with more games played."

Northwest U hosts Eastern Oregon this Friday and the College of Idaho will come to Kirkland on Saturday for an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
