Beacons Takes Doubleheader from NU

Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian Beacons took two games from the NU Eagles this afternoon, 8-0 and 4-2 in Cascade Conference play.
Game 1 – The Beacons used a big, eight run 3rd inning to take an 8-0, 5 inning game in the first match-up of the doubleheader. Both teams would go scoreless in the first two and after holding the Eagles scoreless in the top of the 3rd, the Beacons would explode for 8 runs in their half of the inning. Jordan Bennett and Chelsea Hannon led off the inning with singles. Lawhorn, pinch running for Bennett, would score on an infield single by Addy Hoskins. Hannon then scored in a fielder's choice and Hoskins would then score on a base hit by Gabby Stover. Jill Suratt  would hit a clutch two run single up the middle and Jordan Bennett would come up again and launch a 3-run home run to left field.

NCU pitcher Jill Suratt would throw a 2-hitter as Mallory Tacdol and Bethany Bacon would be the only two Eagles to manage a hit off Suratt. Kelli Peckham would take the loss for NU. Suratt help her cause going 1 for 2 and batting in two runs and scoring once. Jordan Bennett would go 2 for 2 and have 3 RBIs for the Beacons.

Game 2 – Northwest U take a 1-0 in the first inning as Katelyn Riedinger would get on base with an infield single and Hannah Chaffin followed her with a single to right field, scoring Riedinger. Chaffin would be thrown out at second trying to stretch out her single. The Eagles 1-0 lead would be short lived as NCU would answer in their half of the inning and tie the game as Laynee Bevans would score on Randi Kostner's ground out to 2nd base.

The Beacons would then take the 2-1 lead in the 2nd inning when Chelsea Hannon's double would score Jill Suratt. Neither team would score the next three innings until the bottom of the 6th when the Beacons put two more runs on the scoreboard to lead 4-1. The Eagles would get one run back in the top of the 7th as Bethany Bacon would lead off with a solo home run to center field, but a double play and ground out would end the game, giving NCU the 4-2 victory.

Janieve Boyles went 4 innings for NCU and picked up the victory while Kelli Peckham took the loss for the Eagles.

Katelyn Riedinger led Northwest U (1-13, 1-7 CCC) going 2 for 3 from the plate while Hanna Chaffin would go 1 for 1 and get one RBI. Bethany Bacon would go 1 for 3 with the home run.
Northwest U will return home and will travel to Seattle University on Monday for a non-league doubleheader and then will host Concordia on Tuesday, March 25 at 12:00 p.m. and remain at home over the weekend when they host Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech.
