Concordia Powers to Double Win over Northwest

NU's Ricki Tacdol in a close play at second today
Box Score REDMOND, Wash. – Concordia (RV) hit two home runs in each game to help lift them to a sweep over Northwest U, 6-1 and 11-1, at Hartman Park in Redmond. The game had been moved to Hartman from Kirkland due to field playing conditions.

Game 1 – Taylor Bussey and Cassidy Horner each hit solo  home runs to as the Cavaliers scored in 5 of the 7 innings to take a 6-1 victory in the first game. Concordia pitcher Lucy Baldovino only allowed one run on 5 hits while walking only two and striking out 11 Northwest batters.

CU went up 2-0 in the 2nd inning on a two run double to left by Meghan Luebbert. Horner's blast to center field came in the 5th inning and Bussey led off the 6th inning with her solo shot to right center.

Northwest U's Kelli Peckham went 7 innings for the Eagles giving up 6 runs on 8 Cavalier hits while striking out 5.

Game 2 - In a 5 inning game, it was Northwest taking an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd when Janey Ganta doubled Erin Ogden home from first base after Ogden was hit by a pitch. NU's Kierston Perry limited the Cavaliers to just two hits the first three innings, but Concordia would have a big 4th inning, bringing 5 runs across the plate on just one hit and aided by two costly errors by the Eagles. The one hit was a big one, though, as Meghan Luebbert hit a 3-run round tripper scoring Lucy Baldovino and Mariah Jimenez in front of her.

After NU would go scoreless in the bottom of the 4th, Concordia would open up again with 6 runs on 6 hits in the 5th. Back-to-Back doubles by Taylor Copher and Taylor Bussey would score Copher. Singles by McKenzie Marshall and Katie Aden would both drive in runs for the Cavaliers as McKenzie Marshall would allow just one NU hit for the game as she would strike out five.

Northwest U's (1-15, 1-9 CCC) lone hit came from the bat of Janey Ganta as Kierston Perry took the loss for the Eagles in the circle.

Concordia (15-11, 8-2 CCC) had 9 hits in the game with Meghan Luebbert going 3 for 4  and driving in 3 runs. Taylor Bussey went 2 for 3 and had one RBI.

"I felt we played well early against a solid Concordia ball club today," said John Bacon, NU head coach, "but a good team like Concordia takes advantage of any opening you give them and we did that in a few key spots today and they capitalized on it. We're growing with experience and give credit to Concordia for timely hitting and pitching today."
