Long Ball Powers Corban to Sweep of Northwest

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KIRKLAND, Wash. – Corban used eight home runs to break open close contests to sweep a CCC doubleheader from Northwest University, 7-3 and 13-5 this afternoon under sunny skies. It was also Senior Day for NU's two seniors and the Eagle softball team also recognized four graduating seniors from Corban playing their final games in Kirkland.
 
Game 1 – Corban got a 3-run home run in the 3rd inning from Kyrianna Sorensen to overcome a 1-0 deficit. NU got the early lead on a solo home run by shortstop Ricki Tacdol. Corban would get three more runs in the 5th inning on a solo HR by Shelby Mauermann and a 2-run shot by Lounette Jackson to lead 6-1. Northwest would get a run back in the 6th and 7th but it wouldn't be enough to catch the Warriors. Jessica Holsinger went 7 innings for Corban for the win giving up 6 hits and striking out 8. Kelli Peckham also went the distance for Northwest limiting Corban to 4 hits while striking out 9.
 
Kyrianna Sorensen went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs for Corban and Lounette Jackson went 1 for 3 with 3 RBI's for the Warriors. Ricki Tacdol went 2 for 3 for Northwest with 1 RBI.
 
Game 2 – Lounette Jackson continued a big day at the plate giving Corban a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning with her second HR of the day, putting the Warriors up 1-0. Corban got two more runs in the 3rd highlighted by Kylie Durre's home run to increase their lead to 3-0. Ricki Tacdol then hit her second home run of the day, a high drive to left scoring Katelyn Riedinger in front of her to make it a 3-2 ball game.
 
After loading the bases in the top of the 4th inning, Annie Owen came through with a grand slam blast to left center clearing the bases and increasing the Corban lead to 5-2. Northwest U would come right back in their half of the 4th to score three times after two walks with the bases loaded brought in 2 runs. Katelyn Riedinger came through with a clutch base hit scoring Bethany Bacon to make it a 7-5 game. Corban then scored 2 runs in the 5th on Courtney Castronovo's 2-run shot to left scoring Kyrianna Sorensen in front of her who had doubled to open the inning. Castronovo then batted in Sorensen again in the 7th with her second home run of the game and Lounette Jackson would follow with a 2-run shot to center for her second HR of the game, third for the day, which would give the Warriors a 13-5 lead and the victory.
 
Ricki Tacdol completed a good day at the plate going 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs for Northwest U (1-23, 1-17 CCC) and teammate Janey Ganta was 2 for 3 for the Eagles. Kierston Perry took the loss for NU after 6 innings in the circle for NU and Kelli Peckham came in to relieve Perry for an inning giving up just one hit.
 
Corban (21-17, 8-12 CCC) was led by Courtney Castronovo's 2 for 4 day with 4 RBI's and 2 home runs. Lounette Jackson went 3 for 4 driving in 3 runs and hitting two home runs for the Warriors. Samantha Gutwig pitched 3 innings for Corban giving up 3 hits and 5 runs and Danielle Horne came in to relieve Gutwig for 4 innings holding Northwest U scoreless on 4 hits.
 
"I'm proud of the way our team competed against a good Corban team today," stated John Bacon, NU head coach. "You have to tip your hat to Corban for coming up with big hits and home runs at clutch times, but our ladies kept competing to the end. I'm especially proud of our two seniors, Mallory Tacdol and Sarah Payne who have helped lay the foundation for our young program for years to come."
