Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Ore. – The NU Eagles snapped a 21 game losing streak putting together good hitting along with solid pitching to defeat Southern Oregon in the first game of their doubleheader, 6-3, this afternoon. SOU rebounded in the second game to gain the 9-1 victory over the Eagles in 5 innings.
Game 1 – After neither team could manage a score in the first two innings, Northwest U took a 3-0 lead in the 3
rd inning as they put th
ree runs across the plate.
Bethany Bacon got things started as she led off the inning with a solo home run to right center.
Ricki Tacdol then came up with a clutch single with two outs to score
Katelin Lewis and
Katelyn Riedinger.
NU's pitcher,
Kelli Peckham, held the Raiders scoreless until the bottom of the 5
th inning when they put one run on the board. Peckham got out of the inning allowing just the one run with the bases loaded. The Eagles got some insurance runs in the 6
th scoring 3 runs on two hits. Lizzie Reimer singled in
Mallory Tacdol and Sarah Payne and Reimer both scored on a fielding error by SOU to go up 6-1.
SOU scored two runs in their half of the 6
th on an NU fielding miscue, but NU got out of the inning with a put out at home with the bases loaded and Peckham struck out Alexa Gonzalez to end the threat and the inning.
Peckham picked up the win for NU going the distance and giving up 10 hits and 3 runs while striking out 5 SOU batters.
Ricki Tacdol went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs and
Bethany Bacon went 1 for 2 with the home run and a RBI. Karlie Stephens took the loss for Southern Oregon.
Game 2- Southern Oregon didn't waste any time in the second as they put 3 runs on the scoreboard in the 1
st inning on 4 hits and 2 NU errors.
Kelli Peckham came in to relieve
Kierston Perry getting the final out of the inning.
Brianne Craig held the Eagles scoreless for innings until the top of the 5
th when
Katelyn Riedinger and
Alyssa Gonzalez opened the inning with singles. Riedinger then scored on a Raider error making it a 3-1 game. Southern Oregon answered in their half of the 5
th as they erupted for 6 runs on 5 hits to end the game in 5 innings.
Craig earned the win for SOU (13-17, 12-10 CCC) throwing a 4 hitter and striking out 6 Eagles while only issuing 2 walks.
Kierston Perry took the loss for Northwest U (2-28, 2-22 CCC).
Alyssa Gonzalez went 2 for 3 for NU with Sarah Payne and Kaelyn Riedinger getting the other base hits for the Eagles.
"It felt good to get the win in the first game today as our team has continued to work hard and persevere all season long," stated
John Bacon, Eagle head coach. "Southern Oregon showed they were competitors coming back strong in the second game."
Northwest U will return home to Kirkland and will close out their season next weekend when they host Oregon Tech and Southern on Friday and Saturday in games that were postponed in March and re-scheduled to April 25 and 26. Friday's game will be played at Hartman Park in Redmond and Saturday's doubleheader will be played at Cedar Park High School in Bothell.
