SOU Come Backs Take Two From NU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 REDMOND, Wash. – Southern Oregon swept a CCC doubleheader from Northwest University this afternoon, 4-1 and 7-3, at Hartman Park under sunny skies. SOU came back from 1-0 deficits in both games to get the victories.

Game 1 – Northwest U took an early, 1-0 lead in the first inning on the Raiders as they scored their lone run on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. Katelyn Riedinger and Alyssa Gonzalez opened the inning with base hits. Ricki Tacdol walked to load the bases. After an NU strikeout, Riedinger scored on Mallory Tacdol's ground out to third base, but SOU's pitcher, Brianne Craig was able to get out of the inning giving up just one run.

NU held SOU scoreless until the 4th inning when the Raiders scored twice to take the lead for good. Meg Scherer scored the first run on an NU error and Tyler Burke then doubled driving in Brianne Craig who had reached base on the error.

SOU got some insurance runs in the 6th when Meg Scherer scored on Ashley Lowe's single. Brianne Craig scored on a sacrifice fly by teammate Alexa Gonzalez making it 4-1, SOU.

Brianne Craig got the win for SOU going 7 innings and giving up 5 hits. NU's Kelli Peckham took the loss also going the distance giving up 4 runs on 9 Raider hits. Both Craig and Peckham walked just two batters.

Katelyn Riedinger led Northwest U going 2 for 3 for the game while Brianne Craig helped her own cause going 1 for 3 and adding a RBI. Megan Scherer went 2 for 4 for the Raiders.

Game 2 – Northwest scored again in the first inning when Sarah Payne hit a two out single to score Alyssa Gonzalez from second after Gonzalez had singled. SOU tied the game at 1-1 in the 3rd inning Alexa Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly to score teammate Tyler Burke.

Northwest U took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 4th on Katelyn Riedinger's 2-run home run to right field scoring Lizzy Reimer ahead of her.
SOU took control of the game in the 5th inning scoring 4 runs on 4 hits and 1 NU error.  Alyssa Fielding scored on Ashley Lowe's sacrifice fly; Tyler Burke scored on an NU error; Alexa Gonzalez scored on Julie Willison's single; and Sulie Augustine scored on a single by Megan Scherer to right field. The Raiders stretched their lead to 7-3 getting two more runs in the 6th inning while Sydney White held The Eagles scoreless for 4 straight innings to end the game.

 White went 7 innings for SOU (15-19, 14-12 CCC) giving up 7 hits, striking out 10 and issuing 5 walks. Kierston Perry took the loss for Northwest U (2-30, 2-24 CCC).

Sarah Payne led Northwest U going 3 for 4 with one RBI and Katelyn Riedinger 1 for 3 with her 3-run home run. Sulie Augustine had a big day for the Raiders knocking in 3 runs on 1 hit. Ashley Lowe went 2 for 2 with a RBI; Julie Willison 1 for 3 with a RBI and Megan Scherer 2 for 4 with a run batted in.

"I felt we made good contact today, but give credit to Southern Oregon for coming up with some timely hitting and pitching when they needed it," said John Bacon, NU head coach. "We continue to be a work in-progress and our young team has gained valuable experience with each contest this past season. We can only look forward to working hard in the off-season and getting ready for next season."
