Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Three first half goals by Biola proved to be enough as the Eagles defeated Northwest University 3-1 in a non-conference game this afternoon.
Biola (1-0-0) got goals at the 10
th, 28
th and 37
th minute to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. Taylor Venegas scored the first BU goal after picking up a loose ball and scoring from the right side. Miranda Starbuck scored on a 25 yard shot from the center of the field at the 27:19 mark and Margaret Guadarrama completed the scoring from 16 yards out right before halftime.
Northwest U (1-1-0) would not allow any of Biola's 13 second half shots hit the mark and
Acacia Johnson put NU on the scoreboard at the 56:19 mark as she dribbled up the left side and put her shot into the net.
Biola totaled 19 shots while Northwest U had 10. Marina Rodriguez grabbed two saves in goal for Biola.
Kortney Hudak led NU with 3 shots while Brittney Sayre had 4 shots for BU.
Patty Hughes collected a game high 10 saves for NU in goal off 13 shots on goal by Biola.
"I felt our ladies played well given the shortage of healthy players we had today," stated Val Seid, NU head coach. "What we got out of this game was we can play with heart and character even when the odds are not in our favor. I'm proud to see our ladies working hard for each other."
Northwest will remain in Santa Barbara and will take on #2 ranked Westmont College on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.
