Eagles Open CCC Play with 3-0 Shutout of OIT

Sarah Taubenheim scored her first goal of the season in tonight's 3-0 win
Box Score KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The NU Eagles opened Cascade Conference play with a 3-0 shutout of Oregon Tech on the Steen Sports Field tonight. The Eagles started fast taking 5 shots in the first 10 minutes of play.

NU senior, Rachel Saleen scored what proved to the be the game winner and her second goal of the season at the 27:04 mark of the first half after she dribbled past an Owl defender and put her shot into the lower left corner of the net. The Eagles dominated the offensive side of the game with 19 first half shots, 9 shots on goal while the defense held OIT to just three shots.

Northwest U (3-5-1, 1-0-0 CCC) kept pressing in the second half and newcomer, Sarah Taubenheim, gave the Eagles a 2 goal lead as her free kick in the middle, just outside the 18 yard mark, found the net in the 51st minute. Senior Acacia Johnson made it 3-0 and goal No. 6 for the season as she put a loose ball in front of the goal in for the score from 6 yards out at 54:15.

Northwest U outshot OIT (5-4, 0-1 CCC) 29-8 forcing Tech goalkeeper Rebekah Matteri to make 9 saves in goal for the Owls. Patty Hughes earned the shutout for the Eagles making 3 saves in 90 minutes of play. Acacia Johnson led the Eagles with 8 shots while Rachel Saleen had 4 shots for the game.

Said Eagle head coach, Val Seid, "Our ladies came out ready to play tonight. We wanted to set a tone early and come out at them hard. It was really nice to see three different players score tonight as we have been working in taking the load off Acacia (Johnson). It was a good win to start conference play."

NU now travels west to Ashland to take on Southern Oregon on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Raiders defeated Evergreen 4-1 this afternoon in their CCC opener.
