No. 21 Knights Hold Off Eagles

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - Coleton Tarr scored 27 points to lead No. 21 Warner Pacific to an 87-81 Cascade Conference victory over Northwest University tonight.
 
In the first half, Northwest U got off to a good start aided by 65 percent shooting to lead by ten, 30-20, with 8:31 left on the clock. Earl Jones' driving lay-in with 3:01 remaining in the half would make it a one point 37-36 game. Jones would come right back with a jumper and Warner Pacific would take a 38-37 lead as the Knights would stretch their lead to six, 43-37, on a Ryan Parks' 3-pointer at the 1:23 mark. NU's Nemanja Grujicic would get to the rim for a score with 54 seconds left to cut the WPC lead to 43-39 as the half would end.
 
It would be Warner Pacific coming out hot in the second half as they would blister the nets and hit 64 percent of their shots. Coleton Tarr's trey with 10:54 left in the game would increase the WPC lead to 64-52. Northwest U's Thomas Jordan would drain a 3-pointer and Marko Nikolic would add a jumper as NU would cut WPC's lead to six, 68-62, with 7:48 remaining. The Knights would answer any Northwest shot down the stretch and would go 6 for 6 from the free throw line to hold on for the victory.
 
Senior Nemanja Grujicic led Northwest U (12-8, 2-6 CCC) with 21 points. Dak Shagren contributed 17, C. J. Carter 16 and Jordan Thomas dropped in 14 for the Eagles who hit 53 percent of their shots. NU held a 28-22 edge on the rebounding.
 
In addition to Tarr's 27, Warner Pacific (16-4, 5-2 CCC) got 14 points from Earl Jones, and 13 a piece from Doug Thomas and Michael Hall. WPC hit 65 percent of their shots (34-52) and 47% (7-15) from the 3-point line.
 
Both teams continue league play as Northwest U will host No. 14 Concordia and Warner Pacific will travel to Olympia to play Evergreen. Both games are slated for 7:30 p.m. tip offs.
