Corban Overtakes Eagles for Victory

Brandyn Winkley scored a team high 22 points
Box Score SALEM, Ore. – Corban overcame a 34-31 halftime deficit to defeat Northwest University, 71-60, to post a Cascade Conference victory tonight in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

In a defensive struggle and low scoring first half, Northwest U capitalized on 52 percent first half shooting to take a 17-6 lead at the 9:48 mark after Dak Shagren's 3-pointer. Jeremy Paull would drill a trey with 7:25 showing on the clock to give the Eagles a 10 point, 20-10 lead. But Corban would slowly chip away at the NU lead and with 2:02 remaining in the half, Jordan Carter's lay-in would tie the score at 25-all. Brandyn Winkley would hit a clutch 3-pointer with 53 seconds to give NU a 32-27 lead. Corban would score at the buzzer to close the gap to 34-31 as the Eagles would take the slim lead into the locker room.

A 15-0 Corban run to start the second half would be the downfall for the Eagles as the Warriors would overtake NU for a 46-34 lead as Jordan Carter would tip in a score for Corban six minutes into the half. NU would never recover as the Warriors would lead by 12 several times in the half on their way to the 71-60 victory.

Brandyn Winkley came off the Northwest U (12-10, 2-8 CCC) bench to score a team high 22 points while grabbing 7 rebounds. Winkley went 7 for 10, 4 of 6 from the 3-point line for the night for 70 percent shooting. C.J. Carter scored 11 for the Eagles who shot 40 percent as a team.

Corban (10-9, 3-7 CCC) was led by Cyrus Ward's 23 points while teammate A.J. Monterossi added 18 points. Jordan Carter added 11 for the Warriors. Corban won the battle of the rebounds with a 39-26 edge over Northwest U. The Warriors were held to just 17 percent shooting from the 3-point line (2-12).

Northwest U will now travel to Northwest Christian in Eugene for a 7:30 p.m. game before returning to Kirkland.
