Eagle Earn Shutout of Oregon Tech

Branson Corwin score two first half goals today
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Branson Corwin scored two first half goals to help lift Northwest University to a 3-0 victory over Oregon Tech this afternoon in the Eagles' home opener. Northwest U had played on the road since their season began on August 26.

Corwin broke a scoreless tie in the 35th minute when he one touched Jacob Weaver's cross from the right side. Corwin took the pass on the left side of the goal putting the ball into the upper right corner of the net. Corwin then added to his tally scoring off another cross, this time from teammate Ryan Gamache at 41:07. Northwest U would take a 2-0 lead at the half.

Junior Jacob Weaver would score the lone goal in the second half after taking a pass over the Tech defense up the middle and lobbing it over the OIT goalkeeper from 10 yards out. Oregon Tech kept the pressure on in the second half with 15 shots and scoring opportunities, but NU's goalkeeper, Daniel Christenson made 8 of his 12 saves in the second half to prevent the Owls from scoring.

Christenson earns the shutout for Northwest U (6-5, 4-2 CCC) while Gerardo Skewes takes the loss for Oregon Tech (6-7, 4-3 CCC) making six saves in goal. Jacob Weaver led NU with six shots, three on goal. Benito Torres-Mata and Daniel Blessinger each had four shots for Tech.

"I felt our guys played well today from start to finish today," said Gary McIntosh, NU head coach. "We created many scoring chances and it was nice to put three of them away for goals. Defensively, we were solid again Brendon (Wheeler) and Tyler (Ptacek) are doing an excellent job anchoring the back line. Daniel (Christenson) was solid in goal again today and it was nice to finally play at home."

Northwest U will host Southern Oregon on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., while Oregon Tech travels to Olympia to play the Evergreen State College in continued Cascade Conference play.
