Eagles Hit the Century Mark in Win Over NWIC

28 points by Dak Shagren led the way for NU tonight.
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Northwest University men reached the 100 point mark with a 100-72 non-conference win over Northwest Indian College tonight in Kirkland.

Power was restored to campus earlier in the day during a fall storm which saw wind gusts of up to 60 mph in the Kirkland area which left over 150,000 homes without power.

Dak Shagren led Northwest (2-3) all scorers with 28 points and added 6 rebounds. Twelve Eagle players saw meaningful time tonight with Jessie Norton and Zach Smith each scoring 15 points for NU. Mark Lieberman added 11 points as the Eagles shot 57 percent for the game.

Northwest U would break out to an early, 24-14, lead at the 13:46 mark. Dak Shagren's short jumper in the lane would stretch the NU lead to 19, 42-23 with 7:18 left in the half. But, Northwest Indian would outscore NU 5-3 at the end of the half to make it 53-41 Northwest lead as the half would end.

NWIC would go on a run in the second half and pull to within six, 60-54. Northwest U would regain the momentum, force some NWIC turnovers and a 14-4 run would get their lead up to 74-58 at the 9:43 mark. A steal by NU's Mark Lieberman would lead to a lay-in by Marko Nikolic and Lieberman would follow that up with a jumper to give Northwest U an 89-64 lead with five minutes remaining in the game as the Eagles would pull away for the vitory.
 
Northwest Indian College (0-12) was led by Kacy Green's 23 points, hitting 8 of 11 shots from the field. Mike Schjang added 16 points and Austin Miller contributed 11 points for the Eagles from Bellingham, Wash. NWIC hit 22 of 23 free throws for 96 percent.

"It took us a while to play with some purpose tonight and keep the game simple," said NU head coach, John Van Dyke. "We have to realize it's a simple game and when played that way with effort, it will flow better for us. I was pleased with the way the team made a mental adjustment midway through the second half and played with more effort which led to better results."
