Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University used 51 percent first half shooting to build a 17 point halftime lead as they would go on to defeat Northwest University 84-54, in non-league play tonight.

While hitting 51 percent of their shots in the first half, Whitworth's defense held Northwest U to just 25 percent (5 for 20) as they would build a 47-20 lead at the half. Christian Jurlina led the Pirates with 16 first half points with Derek Isaac adding 11. NU was led by Ben Tucakovic's seven points as the cold shooting Eagles managed just 1 for 6 from the 3-point line for 17 percent shooting.

Northwest's shooting improved to 40 percent in the second half, but Whitworth's lead had grown to 30 points eight minutes into the half and the Pirates would maintain that lead the remainder of the game. Whitworth's largest lead of the period would be 36 points, 72-36, with 8:26 left in the game.

Northwest U's (2-4) leading scorer was junior Dak Shagren, finishing with a game high 24 points. Ben Tucakovic added 11 points and Zach Smith added 8 for the Eagles. Neither team had much success from the free throw line with NU shooting 26 percent (15-21) and Whitworth hitting 37  percent of their free throws (14-20). The Eagles were without starter Tomas Ogbaslassie who sat out his second straight game with an injury.

"It was one of those nights where we just couldn't seem to get things going offensively," commented John Van Dyke, Eagle head coach. "The shots weren't going for us and credit Whitworth on their defensive effort. We'll get back to work and prepare for George Fox who we play on Wednesday."

Northwest U will return to Kirkland and will host George Fox on Nov. 25 and Portland Bible College on Nov. 28.
