West's 38 Propels Raiders Over NU in Double Overtime

NU's Ben Tucakovic scored 28 and SOU's Jordan West (No. 30) scored 38 in today's battle
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - Jordan West's game high 38 points and key baskets helped lead No. 10 Southern Oregon to a 99-91 double overtime win. The Raiders came back from a late second half deficit to tie the game sending into the first overtime and then outscored the Eagles 18-10 in the second extra period for the win.
 
It looked as though Northwest U would post their second straight CCC win leading 62-52 with 4:32 remaining in the game, but the No. 10 ranked Raiders mounting a 10-0 run in the next two minutes as Ben DeSaulnier would tie the game at 62-all with his 3-pointer. West would hit a clutch trey with 58 seconds to go to give SOU a 65-64 lead, but NU's Ben Tucakovic would answer with a 3-pointer of his own for a 67-65 Northwest U lead. West would drop in two free throws with 31 seconds left in the game to tie the score. The Raiders would then force an Eagle turnover with two seconds on the clock to send the game into its first overtime.
 
I the first extra period, it appeared SOU would have the game in their grasp holding on to a 79-73 lead with 42 seconds to go. NU's Dak Shagren's 3-pointer with 25 seconds to go would make it an 80-78 ball game, but Jordan West would hit 1 of 2 free throws for an 81-78 SOU lead 22 seconds showing on the clock. Shagren would then be fouled on a 3-point attempt and would sink all three free throws to tie the game at 81 sending the game into a second overtime.
 
The second overtime would be all SOU after an 84-84 tie, a 10-2 run including five points by West would give the Raiders a 94-86 lead with 1:50 left. The SOU defense would then limit the Eagles to five points, scoring five of their own to close out the game for the win.
 
Four Northwest U (6-9, 2-3 CCC) players scored double figures with Ben Tucakovic leading the way with 28 points. Dak Shagren scored 25 points and handed out six assists. Paul Loranger scored 17, coming up with three blocked shots. Michael Dupree contributed 14 points and seven assists.
 
In addition to West's 38 points, Ben DeSaulnier and Clay Sierra each scored 17 points for Southern Oregon (11-3, 4-0 CCC). Joel Spear finished with a game high 9 assists to go along with his 13 points. SOU heated up in the overtime periods shooting 58 percent, hitting 7 of 12 shots.
 
"We just didn't finish as we should have and credit Southern Oregon for their battling back late in the game and hitting clutch shots," stated John Van Dyke, NU head coach. "We'll be a better team after this loss as it showed us we can compete with a nationally ranked team like SOU. Our guys never gave up."
