Owls Hold Off Eagles Late Comeback

Charmaine Bradford scored 19 points and handed out 6 assists
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Oregon Tech held off a late game comeback by Northwest University to post a 73-70 Cascade Conference victory tonight.

Trailing 63-54 with 3:47 remaining in the game, Northwest U would complete a 7-0 run with a short jumper by Charmaine Bradford to make it a two point ball game, 63-61 at 2:40. OIT would build their lead back up to six, after Megan Whetstone would sink two free throws with 1:13 on the clock. Bradford would hit a big 3-pointer with 22 seconds on the clock as NU would close to two, 70-68, but free throws by Whetstone and one by Ashlei Vanderbrink would be enough as the Owls would hold on for the win.
The game was close throughout with OIT taking a 36-35 lead at halftime. Whetstone led the Owls with a team high 18 points and 7 rebounds as Tech would shoot 51 percent for the game.

Charmaine Bradford led Northwest U (6-7, 2-2 CCC) with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Brianna Fiso added 13 points and Miranda Langenhorst scored 11 points for the Eagles. NU hit 44 percent of their shots, but lost the rebounding battle with OIT holding a 37-29 edge.

In addition to Whetstone's 18 points, Oregon Tech (9-3, 3-0 CCC) had three other players in double figures: Karly Leveque with 17 points and Tess Armstrong and Ashlei Vanderbrink each scoring 13 points.

"It was a great game tonight which didn't end in our favor," said Ken Crawford, NU head coach. "We continue to make progress and learn how important every possession can be at this level."

Northwest U remains at home and hosts No. 13 Southern Oregon at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
