CHENEY, Wash. – The Northwest University women's basketball team opened its exhibition slate Sunday afternoon, falling to NCAA Division I Eastern Washington, 93-57, at Reese Court.

The matchup gave the Eagles an opportunity to put their preseason preparation into action against a Division I opponent. As an exhibition, the result does not count toward Northwest's overall record.

Northwest stayed within reach in the opening quarter, trailing 23-17 after the first 10 minutes. Eastern Washington pulled away in the second quarter to take a 46-25 halftime lead and maintained its advantage through the second half.

Monroe Mastro led the Eagles with 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Breanna Griffith added eight points, while Mikah Hammerquist, Hailey Monte and River Sykes each finished with seven.

Northwest found a better offensive rhythm after halftime, shooting over 50 percent from the field in the second half. The opening matchup provided experience for the Eagles as they continue preparing for the regular season.

The Eagles return home to host the University of Puget Sound in another exhibition on Monday, Nov. 9. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kristi Brodin Pavilion.
