No. 15 Cavaliers Take Two From Eagles

NU's Katelin Lewis gets CU's Destinee Chang in a rundown
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 REDMOND, Wash. – No. 15 Concordia came up with big innings in both games as they swept Northwest University, 11-3 and 8-3, in a Cascade Conference doubleheader today at Hartman Park. CU's Destiny Chang had a big first game going 3 for 4 and driving in six runs.

Game 1 – Northwest U took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning on home runs by Ricki Tacdol and Katelyn Riedinger. Tacdol hit a 0-2 pitch for a 2-run home run to center driving in Darian Godfrey. Katelyn Riedinger hit a two out solo home run to left center for the 3-0 lead.

Concordia came back in the top of the second as Destiny Chang hit s 2-run round tripper scoring teammate Taylor Copher in front of her. The Cavaliers added two more runs in the third inning to take a 4-3 lead as Chang came up big again with a 2-run single driving in Meghan Luebbert and Taylor Bussey.

The big inning for Concordia came in the fourth inning when Kate Santos hit a bases loaded single to right field clearing the bases. Destiny Chang got her fifth and sixth RBI's of the day with a 2-out double to center putting the Cavs up 9-3.

Concordia came up with two more runs in the sixth inning holding Northwest scoreless in the bottom of the sixth to earn the win.

Ricki Tacdol went 1 for 2 for Northwest U (5-6, 1-2 CCC) with two RBI's while Janey Ganta was 2 for 3 and Katelyn Riedinger was 1 for 3 with the home run and RBI. Kelli Peckham took the loss for NU.

In addition to Destiny Chang's 3 for 4, six RBI game, Kate Santos was 2 for 3 with three RBI's and Taylor Bussey was 1 for 2 with two RBI's to lead the 11 hit attack for the Cavaliers. Mattie Boucher earned the win in the circle for CU giving up six hits and striking out eight NU batters.

Game 2 – After a scoreless draw for three innings, Concordia exploded for six runs in the 4th inning on their way to an 8-3 victory in the second game. Lucy Baldovino threw a 6-hitter for the Cavaliers who improved to 21-9 on the season. Taylor Bussey hit two home runs for the Cavaliers.

Taylor Bussey led off the fourth inning with a solo shot to left field. Meghan Luebbert then hit a 2-run double to right, scoring Mariah Jimenez and Jamie Martin. Kate Santos stepped up and hit a 3-run home run to center field as the Cavaliers scored six runs on six hits.

The Eagles got three runs back in the bottom of the fourth scoring one run off a single by Ricki Tacdol driving Kierston Perry in from third base. Savannah Rush hit an 0-1 pitch for a 2-out single driving in Katelin Lewis and Darian Godfrey. Baldovino was able to get out of the inning with an NU pop up to the short stop to end the NU rally.

CU scored some insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning when Karissa Shiflet and Taylor Bussey led off the inning with back-to-back home runs. Shiflet's bounced off the fence in right center and Bussey's second HR of the day cleared the right center field fence.

Northwest U's Katelin Lewis got on base to start the bottom of the 7th, but Baldovino put the clamps on the Eagles with three straight outs for the victory.

Northwest U (5-7, 1-3 CCC) was led by Savannah Rush's two RBI's and going 1 for 2 from the plate. Ricki Tacdol was 1 for 3 with a RBI and Kierston Perry was 1 for 2 and scored a run.

Taylor Bussey went 3 for 4, hit two home runs and scored two runs to lead the way for Concordia (21-9, 2-2 CCC). Kate Santos had three RBI's, going 1 for 3 and Meghan Luebbert was 3 for 4 and drove in two runs. Lucy Baldovino went the distance in the circle picking up the win, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out eight.
