Eagles Earn Split with No. 13 Oregon Tech

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 REDMOND, Wash. – Northwest University used a big 5th inning to overtake Oregon Tech, 8-6, in the first game and Oregon Tech then scored 13 runs in the fourth and fifth innings in the second game to take a 14-1, five inning contest in a CCC doubleheader at Hartman Park. Rain dampened both games as teams battled through the wet playing conditions.

Game 1 – McKenzie Shrum got OIT off to a fast start with a two run home run in the top of the first inning. The Eagles answered in their half of the first when Ricki Tacdol hit a two out solo home run to cut the Oregon Tech lead to 2-1.
Tech increased their lead to 3-1 in the third inning the when Tara Moates scored after a bases loaded walk issued to Sadie Birch. Back came Northwest in their half of the inning to tie the game with Darian Godfrey's two run home run scoring Cara Cristion in front of her who had reached base on a walk.

Katie Virtue singled in a run for the Owls in the fourth inning and then scored later on a double to right by teammate Tre Sullivan giving OIT a 5-3 advantage. Northwest U's big inning came in the bottom of the fourth when they brought five runs across the plate. Courtney Cox hit a one out, two run home run to left field driving in Alyssa Gonzalez. Ricki Tacdol then walked with the bases loaded scoring Bethany Bay. Darian Godfrey and Cara Cristion both scored on a throwing error by the Owls giving NU 5 runs on two hits and an error and the lead at 8-5.

Oregon Tech managed to score a run in the fifth inning, but pitcher Kelli Peckham would hold the Owls scoreless the remainder of the way to earn the win in the circle.

Darian Godfrey led the Eagles (8-9, 4-5 CCC) going 2 for 3 from the plate, driving in two runs and scoring two runs. Ricki Tacdol went 1 for 3 including her home run and Courtney Cox was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and her two run HR. Kelli Peckham went the distance for Northwest U in the circle to earn the win.

Oregon Tech (20-8, 4-2 CCC) was led by McKenzie Shrum who drove in three runs on three hits and scored a run. Kayla Prock was 1 for 2 and had a RBI for the Owls. Rylee Carlton too the loss for OIT giving up eight runs on 4 hits.

Game 2 – Tied 1-1 after three innings, the No. 13 Owls' bats came alive scoring six runs in the 4th and 7 runs in the 5th innings for the 14-1, five inning contest. In the fourth inning McKenzie Shrum singled in Ashley Sfetku. Tara Moates hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Karly LaVeque. Tasha Silvius put the capper on the inning with a grand slam home run to left field giving the Owls a 7-1 lead.

Oregon Tech then put together another big inning in the 5th inning scoring seven runs on six hits to increase their lead to 14-1. Northwest U was unable to answer in the bottom of the fifth going down 1, 2, 3, to end the game.

Darian Godfrey led Northwest U (8-10, 4-6 CCC) going 1 for 3 with one RBI. Katelyn Riedinger was 2 for 2. Kierston Perrywent 4 1/3 inning for the Eagles giving up 11 runs.

Jessi Duncan pitched a 3-hitter for OIT (21-8, 5-2 CCC) striking out four and giving up just three base on balls. McKenzie Shrum had another solid effort for the Owls going a perfect 4 for 4 and added a RBI to lead the Owls' 14 hit attack. Tara Moates was 2 for 4 for three RBIs and teammate Tasha Silvius was 1 for 4 and four RBIs with her grand slam round tripper.
