NCU Comes Back in Game Two to Split with Eagles

Savannah Rush hit two home runs and Darian Godfrey had one in today's doubleheader
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest Christian came back to edge the Eagles, 6-5, in extra innings in game two to get the split with the Eagles this afternoon. NU took the first game, 7-3, on home runs by Savannah Rush and Darian Godfrey. Rush had a home run in each game today, the team's final regular season games.

Game 1 – Timely hitting, solid pitching and defense were the keys to the Eagles 7-3 victory in game one. Kelli Peckham came through with her second straight solid performance in the circle for the Eagles limiting the Beacons to three runs while striking out 7 and giving up no walks. The NU defense played errorless softball for seven innings.

Savannah Rush put NU up early in the first inning with a three run home run over the left center field fence scoring Darian Godfrey and Ricki Tacdol in front of her. The Eagles made it 7-0 with four more runs in the 2nd inning highlighted by Darian Godfrey's three run home run to left field. Rush then hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Katelyn Riedinger who had singled to get on base.

The Beacons came back to score two runs in the third inning aided by three straight doubles making it a 7-3 ball game.

Peckham held the Beacons scoreless until the 6th when NCU managed a run when Parker Bonife doubled Ashlee Cole who led off the inning with a double to right field. In the bottom of the 7th the Eagles would not allow a run and retire the side as they would post the victory.

Darian Godfrey went 1 for 3 with 3 RBI's while Rush was 2 for 3 with 4 RBI's for the game. Both hit their 6th home runs of the season. Ricki Tacdol went 2 for 3 and scored once. Kelli Peckham earned the win (7-11) while efficiently scattering 10 NCU hits.

Northwest Christian was led by Addy Hoskins 2 for 3 day and added 2 RBI's. Parker Bonife was 1 for 3 with a RBI for the Beacons and Jill Suratt took the loss (7-15) while also going 2 for 4 from the plate.

Game 2 – Northwest Christian chipped away at a five run NU lead, scoring single runs in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th innings for the come-from-behind victory in game two.

It looked as though the Eagles would get their first CCC sweep this season as they opened the game with a 5-0 lead after two innings. Darian Godfrey opened the scoring as she scored on a bases loaded walk in the top of the 1st inning. After a pitching change, Bethany Bay came through with a single to left scoring Savannah Rush, putting NU up 2-0.

In the second inning, Janey Ganta scored on a fielder's choice. Savannah Rush then hit a two run home run to center field scoring Katelyn Riedinger in front of her to put the Eagles up 5-0.

NU held the Beacons scoreless until the 4th inning when they got two runs back on a pair of doubles. Then, NCU would begin to peck away at the Eagle lead with runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings to tie the score at 5-5. Ashlee Cole came through with the game tying home run in the bottom of the 7th to send the game into extra innings.

Katelin Lewis led off the 8th inning with a single through the right side, but a fly out and double play would end any scoring threat.  Northwest Christian scored the game winner in the bottom of the 8th inning as Anita Singh would hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Taylor Medley from third to complete the come-from-behind win for the Beacons.

Northwest U (13-23, 9-19 CCC) was led by Savannah Rush who went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's including her 7th home run of the season and second of the day. Janey Ganta was 3 for 4 and scored once for the Eagles. Pitcher Kierston Perry (5-10) took the loss in the circle striking out five Beacons and walking five.

Sarah Lawhorn earned the win for Northwest Christian (13-33, 10-18 CCC) going five innings and giving up four hits and no runs. Ashlee Cole went 2 for 3 with w RBI's for NCU while teammate Torie O'Keeffe was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI's. Anita Singh was 1 for 3 and had 2 RBI's for the Beacons.

Said NU head coach, Mallory Tacdol, "We overcame so much this season and it showed on the field. I am so proud of our accomplishments on the field as well as the growth as a team off the field. We never gave up, we never hung our heads, we fought every outting. I could not be more proud of these ladies."

Congratulations to the Eagle softball team and coaches for an exciting year!
