Box Score 2 HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. – No. 17 Concordia's Lucy Baldovino pitched a 6-hitter in the first game as the Cavaliers held off the Eagles 5-3, but NU's bats came alive for 10 hits in game two as the Eagles upset the Cavs, 9-3, on a 6-hitter by
Kierston Perry at Hoodview Park.
Game 1 – The Eagles finally got to Concordia pitcher, Lucy Baldovino, in the 6
th and 7
th innings, but it wouldn't be enough as the Cavaliers would hold on for a 5-3 win in the first game.
Concordia built a 5-0 lead scoring three runs in the first inning on three hits and two NU errors and getting two more runs in the 4
th on a two-run home run by Jamie Martin.
The Eagles would finally get to Baldovino in the top of the 6
th when
Ricki Tacdol and
Savannah Rush hit back-to-back singles with two outs.
Janey Ganta was hit by a pitch loading the bases and Tacdol then came in to score when
Alyssa Gonzalez walked after a 3-2 count.
It looked as though the Eagles might go down 1, 2, 3, in the 7
th inning as the first two Eagle batters struck out. But,
Darian Godfrey came through with a two out single down the third base line and
Katelyn Riedinger hit the first pitch over the right center field fence for her 7
th home run of the season. Baldovino would settle down and get
Ricki Tacdol on a called third strike to end the game.
Darian Godfrey led the Eagles going 2 for 4 and scoring once while Riedinger went 1 for 3 with two RBI's off the home run. Riedinger hit two home runs against Oregon Tech over the weekend.
Katie Santos and Jamie Martin both went 1 for 3 with two RBI's for Concordia. Meghan Luebbert was 2 for 3. Baldovino earned the pitching victory going 7 innings, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out 10 NU batters.
Game 2 – Concordia took an early 2-1 lead after NU's Darian put the Eagles in the scoring column with her first inning home run. CU answered with two runs of their own in the first inning grab the lead, but the Eagles exploded for five runs in the second inning with three clutch hits.
Lexie Robbins started things off with a 2-out single to right.
Katelin Lewis and
Alyssa Gonzalez both walked to load the bases. Robbins came in to score when
Darian Godfrey was issued a base on balls.
Katelyn Riedinger then hit a single up the middle scoring Lewis and Gonzalez.
Savannah Rush then came through with a 2-out single up the middle bringing in Riedinger and Godfrey putting the Eagles up 6-2. CU managed get get one run back in the third inning with Taylor Bussey's solo home run.
NU then got some insurance runs in the 6
th inning with more timely hitting.
Lexie Robbins led off with a single through the left side, but was then thrown out stealing 2nd.
Alyssa Gonzalez got on base on an error by CU and advanced to 2
nd base.
Katelyn Riedinger came through with a single to right field scoring Gonzalez. After
Savannah Rush walked,
Kierston Perry's clutch base hit to right scored both Godfrey and Riedinger. Lucy Baldovino came in to pitch for Cu getting
Ricki Tacdol to pop out to end the inning.
Kierston Perry was solid in the circle in the 6
th and seventh inning holding the Cavaliers hitless and retiring six out of seven Concordia batters for the victory.
Katelyn Riedinger had a solid day at the plate for Northwest U (9-19, 5-15 CCC) with a 3 for 4 day including 3 RBI's and scoring twice.
Darian Godfrey was 2 for 3 including the home run for 2 RBI's.
Savannah Rush was 1 for 3 adding 2 RBI's and pitcher
Kierston Perry helped her cause with a 1 for 4 day at the plate with 2 RBI's. Perry earned the win with the complete game, scattering six hits and walking only three.
Karlie Merritt took the loss for Concordia (32-12, 13-5 CCC) going four innings and giving up six runs on four hits. Destinee Chang led the Cavs going 1 for 3 and 2 RBI's. Taylor Bussey was 2 for 2, scored twice and had a RBI for Concordia.
Said NU coach,
Mallory Tacdol, "In the first game our defense played well behind Kelli (Peckham), but our bats were late in getting started. The second game saw us put people on base and then we strung timely hits together.
Kierston Perry had a great outing holding CU to only 3 runs in two innings. We played to our potential in the second game today."
