Eagles Shut Out in League Opener

Daniel Christenson made seven saves for the Eagles
Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific's defense and goalkeeper Josh White proved to be too tough as the Knights shut out Northwest U, 2-0, this afternoon in the league opener for the teams. White made three saves in the final 1o minutes of play to preserve the win for WPC.

Northwest U nearly got on the scoreboard early as two straight corner kicks by Ryan Gamache in the 5th minute ended with a shot on goal by Odason Pelogi which was saved by White. Warner Pac nearly scored in the 27th minute, but Cesar Esquivel's header hit the crossbar. NU goalkeeper Daniel Christenson stopped another Esquivel shot in the 37th minute with a strong save to avoid a score.

Warner Pacific broke through the scoring ice in the 56th minute when Mario Guizar scored off an assist by Esquivel. Five minutes later in the 63rd minute, it was Esquivel this time scoring after taking a pass from teammate Johannes Reiber.

The Eagles would not give up and would keep on pressing. Elijah Gordon's shot at the 70:49 mark would be saved by White as would Brendon Wheeler's shot on goal in the 79'.  Branson Corwin's shot off Elijah Gordon's corner kick at 84:44 would again be stopped as the game would end with the Knights on top of the scoreboard.

Warner Pacific (3-3, 1-0 CCC) outshot NU 13-8, but the Eagles had seven shots on goal to the Knights' five. Daniel Christenson made three saves in goal for the Eagles while Josh White saved seven for WPC earning the shutout.

"It was a tough start for us today" said Gary McIntosh, Eagle head coach. "We just did not play well and could not find each other consistently on the offensive side of things. Tomorrow is a new day and we must be ready to play."

Northwest U now moves on to play Eastern Oregon in La Grande on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m., before returning to Kirkland.
