Mountaineers Come Back to Defeat Eagles

Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon scored two goals in the final sixteen minutes of the game for a come from behind 2-1 victory over the NU Eagles in CCC play today in La Grande.

After a scoreless first half which saw EOU goalkeeper, Alfredo Lara, make five saves to keep the Eagles out of the goal, NU's Odason Pelogi would give the Northwest U a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute as he scored off teammates Max Schellmann's assist. Pelogi just missed a score right before the end of the first half that was saved by Lara.

The score would remain the same until the 75:33 mark when Aldo Rivas tied the score with his goal. Ten minutes later Fredy Rodriguez would score the game winner with Rivas getting the assist on the play.

Chis Iacoluuci's shot would be blocked by EOU's defense in the 85th minute as the Mountaineer defense would not allow another Eagle score.

The Eagles outshot EOU 17-15 and had five corner kicks to the Mounties four. Daniel Christenson had three saves in goal for Northwest U. Alfredo Lara played the first half and finished with his five save while Luke Ridder played in goal for EOU in the second half, making one save.

Odason Pelogi led NU with 5 shots, three on goal and Kyle Zimmerman had four shots, one on goal. It was a physical game with 29 fouls and six yellows cards issued for the game.

NU coach, Gary McIntosh commented. "Another tough loss for us. We played well and had our chances. Things are just not going our way right now. All we can do is continue to work hard and things will eventually come around our way. This conference is tough and playing on the road makes it even tougher."

The Northwest U men will play their eighth straight game on the road next Saturday when they play the Evergreen State College in Olympia.
