Eagles Hand Evergreen First Loss of the Season

Kyle Zimmerman celebrates with his teammates after scoring the game winner
Box Score OLYMPIA, Wash. – The NU Eagles got scoring from Jacob Weaver and Kyle Zimmerman on their way to a 2-1 Cascade Conference victory over the Evergreen State College this afternoon on the Geoducks' home field.

Weaver scored on the Eagles second shot of the day on a breakaway after an Evergreen turnover putting the ball past the Geoduck goalkeeper in the 17th minute. Northwest U's defense stiffened and the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in to the half.

The two teams battled for 26 minutes into the second half before Kyle Zimmerman would score the game winner after another Geoduck turnover. Zimmerman shot came from 25 yards out in the middle of the field.

Martin Ramirez nearly scored for Evergreen at the 75:33 mark, but his shot hit the crossbar.

Ryan Porch brought Evergreen to within a goal in the 80th minute as he flicked a shot past NU goalkeeper, Daniel Christenson, for the score. Porch took a lifted pass from teammate Tanner Williams for the score.

Northwest U's defense would again toughen and Christenson would make a crucial save of a possibly game tying goal by Issa Hassan in the 85' to help preserve the win and handing Evergreen their first loss of the season.

NU outshot Evergreen 12-5 while Evergreen held a 4-3 edge on corner kicks. Three of the Eagles five shots were shots on goal. Christenson earned the save in goal for Northwest U (3-5, 1-2 CCC), making three saves. ESC goalkeeper,  Angel Guerra , took the loss for the Geoducks making one save.

"It was a great win for us today," said Gary McIntosh, Eagle head coach. "I'm very proud of the effort, work rate, and the attitude of the team.  Our defense and keeper were great today preventing  them from getting good looks.  Jacob (Weaver) did well on the first goal to get us going. Kyle's (Zimmerman) goal was a stunner and won us the game.  Overall, it was a very good day for us today."
