Ward Leads Hot Shooting Corban Over Eagles

Corban's Cyrus Ward caused the Eagles problems in the paint
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - Corban's 6-6 senior, Cyrus Ward's 29 points on 12 for 22 shooting helped lift the Warriors to an 85-70 conference win over Northwest University tonight.

Corban (10-6, 4-4 CCC) rebounded from last night's loss to Evergreen by shooting 50 percent (31-61) for the night including 53 percent (10-19) from the 3-point line. Caleb Herzberg hit four of seven 3-point attempts for 15 points.

The Warriors sharp shooting kept them in the lead for 31 minutes and 25 seconds of the game as they only trailed three times in the first 8 minutes of the first half. Corban would break open a close game as Joel Johnson's driving lay-in with 6:30 left in the first half would give the Warriors a 26-20 lead. Four straight points in the paint by Cyrus Ward would increase the CU lead to 11, 37-26, with 2:45 left until halftime. NU's Michael Dupree would cut the lead to six, 39-33, but four straight Corban points to end the half, punctuated by Caleb Dozier's 3-pointer would give the Warriors a 44-33 lead at the break.

Corban would continue to make high percentage shots in the second half as Northwest U struggled from the field hitting just 33 percent of their attempts. A 3-pointer by Corban's Taylor Fox would push their lead to 16 points, 63-47, with 10:13 to go in the game. A 6-0 run by Northwest U would make it a 73-67 game at 4:53, but it would the closest they would get as Corban would slowly build their lead back to 15 at the end of the game.

Michael Dupree led Northwest U (7-12, 3-6 CCC) with 21 points hitting 8 of 13 from the field. Ben Tucakovic added 12 points and Dak Shagren dropped in 10 points for the Eagles.

In addition to Ward and Herzberg's, Corban's Cody Crowe scored 12 points and AJ Monterossi score 10 points and handing out 6 assists. Corban edged Northwest U in rebounding, 36-25.

"We're still looking to play a complete game," said John Van Dyke, Northwest U head coach. "With seven new players it will take a little time for us to gel, but we will persevere and get right back to work on Monday to prepare for next weekend's games."
