Geoducks Hold Off Eagles

Box Score OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Evergreen State College shot 53 percent as they held off the NU Eagles, 84-79, to sweep the season series 3-0, and earn a Cascade Conference victory tonight in the CRC Gymnasium.

The Geoduck victory overshadowed a 28 point performance by Northwest U's Michael Dupree.

Evergreen broke out early to a 13-2 lead in the first half hitting 5 of their first 7 shots (71 percent) while The Eagles managed just 1 for 6 from the field. With 6:47 left in the half and with Evergreen leading 30-20, NU would go on a 7-2 run to cut the Geoduck lead to 3, 32-29 at 4:26. But, a 9-0 run by Evergreen would bump their lead to 12 points, 41-29, as Danny Powell would get to the basket for a lay-in with 51 seconds showing on the clock. The Eagles would go on a 5-0 run to close out the half with  a basket by Daniel Ghebremichael and a 3-pointer by Michael Dupree with 5 seconds left as ESC would lead, 41-34, as the half would end.

After hitting 57 percent of their shots in the first half, the Geoducks would not cool much as they would make 13 of 26 shots in the second for 50 percent. Brock Otis' 3-pointer would increase Evergreen's lead to 19, 63-44 at the 12:44 mark. Northwest U would cut the ESC lead to 10 three times in the latter stages of the game and a 7-0 run late in the game would fall short as Tomas Ogbaslassie's trey with 5 seconds to go would end the scoring for the game with Evergreen on top, 84-79.

Ogbaslassie score 12 points for Northwest U (7-13, 3-7 CCC). Two of the team's top scorers, Dak Shagren and Ben Tucakovic would be held well below their averages with Shagren scoring 10 and Tucakovic dropping in 7 points for the Eagles. NU shot 48 percent for the game, but managed only 8 free throws, making seven for 87 percent.

Evergreen (7-11, 4-6 CCC) had four players in double figures led by Alix Hernandez and Brock Otis' 18 points. Danny Powell scored 17 points and added 10 rebounds while teammate Frankie Johnson added 11. Hernandez also had a game high 9 assists as ESC out rebounded NU, 36-30.
