Owls Pull Away in the Second Half to Defeat the Eagles

Box Score KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech broke open a close contest in the second half as they defeated Northwest University, 68-51, in conference play this afternoon and to improve to 16-5 overall.

Aided by 54 percent shooting in the first half, Northwest U opened the game with a 13-6 lead six minutes into the half. Lavar Moore's 3-pointer at 9:14 would cut the NU lead to one, 16-15 and the score would remain close the remainder of the half. Trailing 28-26 with 1:13 left in the period, Dak Shagren would tie the game with his jumper followed by Zach Smith's 3-pointer with 16 seconds on the clock to give the Eagles a 31-28 halftime lead.

After OIT would tie the game 3 minutes into the second half, Paul Loranger's jumper in the lane would give the Eagles the 37-35 lead, but Lavar Moore would hit a jumper and a trey to put OIT back into the lead for good, 40-37, at the 16:04 mark. The Owls would slowly pull away from the road weary Eagle and Joel Yellow Owl's jumper with 5:26 to go would give Tech a 59-44 lead as they would hold on for the conference win.

Dak Shagren led the way for Northwest U (8-15, 4-9 CCC) with 14 points. Zach Smith scored 10 points and gathered in 6 rebounds and Michael Dupree finished with 9 points for the Eagles who shot 44 percent for the contest.

Oregon Tech (16-5, 7-5 CCC) was led by Joel Yellow Owl's 22 points on 10 for 14 shooting (71.4 percent) with teammate Brandon Halter adding 16 points and 8 rebounds. Lavar Moore score 12 points and added 5 assists. Tech shot 48 percent and out rebounded NU 39-23.

"I think we just ran out of gas after the tough game last night at Southern Oregon," commented NU head coach, John Van Dyke. "Our depth was affected a bit by the absence of Ben (Tucakovic) and we didn't finish well in the final 15 minutes of the game today which showed a bit of fatigue."
