NU Women 10th; Men 13th at Charles Bowles Invite

The NU women's team in Salem, Ore., today
SALEM, Ore. Sarah Estabrook and Kyle Cole were the top NU finishers for the Eagles at today's Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational at Bush Park in Salem, Ore. The women's team finished 10th and the men took 13th in a large field of runners.

Estabrook finished 35th in a field of 165 runners in the women's 5k coming in with a time of 18:40.0, establishing a new personal best. Lily Engelbrekt was 48th with her time of 19:03.1 and Shandon Lystad was 86th with her career best time of 20:08.7. Mia Valerio ran the course in 20:28.2; Ryan Conlin in at 21:10.6; Hannah DeLapp at 21:49.9; Reegan Moore, 22:32.3; Leila Praino, 22:47.6; Megan Golling, 23:29.1; Anna Miller, 23:29.5; and Emily Campbell in at 30:11.6.

From Coach Mark Mandi, "The women's team entered the race in less than ideal conditions with a majority of them being under the weather and injured, though their performances would show otherwise. Cassidy Brown (18:27.9), performing unattached, came in with an impressive 24th place overall out of 165 runners."

Cole and the NU men were in a big field of 208 runners and 21 teams were represented in the 8k race. He ran his second career best time crossing the finish line in 28:58.5 and in 53rd place. Cameron Siler was 93rd with a time of 26:48.6 and freshman Riley Sine came in at 26:56.6. Dean Willis came across the finish line at 27:09.1; Logan Griffis at 27:51.7; Brian Guisinger, 28:15.0; Caleb Smith, 28:32.4; Gino Bruce, 28:55.7; and TJ Randle at 36:19.0.

Said Mandi about the Eagle men: "The men's team showed good improvement from their last race at Sundodger in West Seattle. Kyle Cole continues to do a great job leading the men's team while running his second best time ever. Following Cole's performance were our 2nd (Siler), 3rd (Sine) and 4th (Willis) runners showing impressive improvement. All of the runners performed seasons best, especially Siler, who had a great debut in Northwest uniform."

Mandi continued, "We had two athletes perform their first cross country race ever, TJ Randel and Emily Campbell. Both athletes are training with the distance team this season, but are primarily sprinters on the track team. It was an inspiring sight to see, watching both athletes compete in a foreign event and away from their specialty."

The Eagles next meet will be in Seattle at Green Lake and Woodland Park at the Emerald City Open on October 15.
