Corwin Leads Eagles Into the Playoffs

Branson Corwin scored both Eagle goals with Luis Rangel (right) getting one assist
Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – Two first half goals by Northwest U's Branson Corwin would be all the Eagles would need to shut out Northwest Christian, 2-0, and clinch a spot in the Cascade Conference post season tournament.

Corwin scored his first goal in the 28th minute as he scored off a pass and assist from teammate Kyle Zimmerman. Less than eight minutes later, it would be a long pass from teammate Luis Rangel that would find Corwin and he would dribble to the goal line and find the side of the net.

The game was extremely competitive with 24 fouls and five yellow cards issued as Northwest U would hold the edge on shots with a 12-11 margin. NU also took 6 corner kicks to the Beacons' 4.

Corwin led Northwest U (11-8, 7-6 CCC) with three shots, all on goal with two scores while Eagle goalkeeper, Daniel Christenson, earned the win making 3 saves in goal. The NU defense did a solid job allowing only three NCU shots on goal for the game.

Yayo Olvera took the loss in goal for Northwest Christian (8-8-2, 4-7-2 CCC) making 7 saves in 90 minutes of play. Zephaniah Hollins took three shots to lead the Beacons.

"I'm very pleased with the guys and their desire to win this game," said Gary McIntosh, Eagle head coach. "We had big games from Branson (Corwin), Kieren (
Raney), Max (Schellmann), and Daniel (Christenson).  This has been a tough year for us and we have persevered. Our first goal was to make playoffs and we have reached that goal and it feels good. Now to enjoy this feeling tonight and tomorrow we will start planning and preparing for the playoffs."
