Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University improved to 5-0 on the season with a 91-83 victory over the University of Puget Sound tonight in the NU Pavilion. Puget Sound made a late charge cutting a 20 point NU lead down to single digits in the final minutes.
Northwest U broke out to a 19-9 lead in the first six minutes of the half, but Puget Sound would battle back and tie the game at 19-19 after a 10-0 run. Leading 34-30 at the 3:11 mark, NU would go on a 6-0 run to boost their lead to 40-30 after two straight 3-pointers by Dak Shagren. Kohl Meyer's driving lay-up with 17 seconds would make it a 44-37 game at halftime.
Michael Dupree's lay-up with 5:23 left in the game would put the Eagles up 82-61 for their largest lead of the game, but two straight treys by UPS' Jimmy Wohrer would cut NU's lead to 14, 85-71. Two more 3-pointers by Wohrer would make it an 85-79 game with 1:18 remaining. Kohl Meyer would have a chance to make it a two point game with 34 seconds remaining but he would go 0-2 from the free throw line. NU's Ben Tucakovic would then hit 4 of 4 free throws to help clinch the victory for Northwest U.
Five NU Eagles (5-0) scored in double figures tonight with Dak Shagren leading the way with 20 points. Tre' Benton added 18 points and 7 rebounds; Michael Dupree with 17 points and 6 assists;
Ben Tucakovic with 12; and
Kaelan Hicks with 11 points a 8 rebounds. Northwest U shot 46 per cent and held a 48-35 rebound margin with a taller line-up.
Puget Sound, playing the contest as an exhibition, was led by Jimmy Wohrer's 28 points as he hit 8 of 15 three point shots, four in the Loggers late run in the second half. Kohl Meyer score 19 points with 4 assists and Easton Driessen contributed 9 points for UPS. UPS shot 42 per cent for the game.
Northwest U will now travel to Boise, Idaho on Saturday to play Boise State in an exhibition game for the Eagles in Taco Bell Arena a 1 p.m.
