No. 16 Southern Oregon Gets By Eagles

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Ore. – No. 16 Southern Oregon took both games in today's doubleheader with Northwest University, 5-1 and 5-4, in Cascade Conference play. SOU's Sydney White threw a complete game, 3-hitter in the first game for the win and the Raiders held off a late game rally by NU for the narrow victory.

Game 1 – SOU 5, Northwest U 1

NU pitcher Kelli Peckham held the 16th ranked Raiders to just two hits in the first 3 innings, but Southern Oregon came up with three runs in the 4th to take the lead. The Raiders added two more runs in the 6th inning on a two run single to increase their lead to 5-0.

Northwest U then got on the scoreboard in the top of the 7th inning when Savannah Rush led off with a triple to right center. With one out, Courtney Cox hit an infield single scoring Rush from third base, but Mikayla Wells would line into a game ending double play to end the rally.

Savannah Rush, Courtney Cox and Ricki Tacdol went 1 for 3 for Northwest U (7-12, 4-5 CCC) with Kelli Peckham taking the loss in the circle for the Eagles.

Southern Oregon was led by Jazmin Ruvalcaba's 2 for 2 game with 3 RBI's. Sydney White pitched 7 innings, striking out seven Eagles while walking just two for the win.

Game 2 – Southern Oregon 5, Eagles 4

Southern Oregon ended a 7th inning rally by the Eagles to edge NU, 5-4.

Allie Anderegg put the Eagles up 1-0 in the 4th inning with her 5th home run of the season, SOU took the lead in the 5th inning coming up with three runs on a triple and 2-run home run by Nicole Cardoza.

The Eagles would tie the game in the 6th inning when Savannah Rush hit a 2-run home run to right field with Alyssa Gonzalez on base. Gonzalez had led off the inning with a double to left center field.

Southern Oregon struck again in their half of the 6th inning on a lead-off home run by Davalin Ontiveros and a sacrifice fly to regain the lead at 5-3.

Ricki Tacdol started an Eagle rally in the 7th inning as she led off with a solo home run to center field to cut the SOU lead to one run, but NU would leave two runners on base as SOU would get the final out and the win.

Hannah Yelas took the loss for Northwest U (7-13, 4-6, CCC) going five innings and giving up 8 hits. Kelli Peckham came in for an inning of relief. Savannah Rush was 1 for 2, scored a run and had two RBI's with her home run. Allie Anderegg was 1 for 3, with one RBI and Ricki Tacdol was 1 for 3 with one RBI.

Southern Oregon (19-9, 5-3 CCC) was led by Taylor Martinez who was a perfect 3 for 3 from the plate and scored a run. Nicole Cardoza was 1 for 3 from the plate with 2 runs batted in. Victoria Mackey earned her 9th win of the season going 6 innings giving up 6 hits and one base on balls.

"We held a good SOU team scoreless for the first four innings in each game today," said Montessa Califano, NU head coach. "Kelli Peckham started strong in the first game, but SOU managed to score some runs. We finally lit the fire in the final inning but could only manage one run. In the second game, Hannah Yelas pitched a great game and Allie Anderegg, Savannah Rush and Ricki Tacdol came up with key home runs for us. Dani Bonsky came through with a big pinch hit single in the 7th inning that got the momentum rolling, but we just couldn't move runs across the plate. I felt we played a solid day of ball today, we are finding better consistency and potential which will come. We play best when our players are filling roles needed to be filled which makes us a much better team. When we play total team ball, do all the little things to be successful, and give our best effort, we are playing Eagleball the way it is meant to be played."

The Eagles now head to Klamath Falls for a doubleheader with Oregon Tech on Saturday. The first game gets started at 11 a.m.
