EOU Takes Twin Bill from Eagles

Dani Bonsky was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs in the second game today
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LA GRANDE, Ore. –  Eastern Oregon scored early in game one for an 8-3 victory and then won a marathon, 11 inning second game, 5-3, on a clutch home run by Alex Shuster to take two games from the NU Eagles.
 
Game 1 – EOU 8, Eagles 3
 
Eastern Oregon scored their runs early and then held off the Eagles for an 8-3 victory in game one of the doubleheader. The Mountaineers scored six runs in the 2nd and two in the 3rd inning while pounding out 12 hits.
 
The big hit came in the 2nd inning when Haley Hess hit a grand slam home run off NU starting pitcher, Kelli Peckham. Two other runs scored on an NU error and a sacrifice fly to give EOU the 6-0 lead.
 
The Eagles got one run back in the 3rd inning when Aubree Slocum singled to left center field scoring Danielle Bonsky who had singled to get on base.
 
EOU scored two more runs in their half of the 3d inning on a double to center and a single to center.
 
In the 6th inning, Northwest U's Alyssa Gonzalez got on base with a single to left field and scored when Savannah Rush hit a double down the right field line. Ricki Tacdol then brought Rush to home plate with a single up the middle.
 
Aubree Slocum led Northwest U going 1 for 2 with one RBI. Savannah Rush and Ricki Tacdol both went 1 for 3 and added one RBI each. Kelli Peckham took the loss in the circle for the Eagles.
 
Game 2 – EOU 5, Eagles 3 (11 innings)
 

EOU's Alex Shuster came through with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the Mountaineers to a 5-3 win in the second game of Saturday's twin bill. NU's Hannah Yelas gave NU a solid effort pitching 10 1/3 innings.
 
It was NU taking an early lead in the 1st inning as they came up with 3 runs on 3 hits. Savannah Rush hit a bases loaded single scoring Alyssa Gonzalez. Courtney Cox then came up with a 2-run single with the bases packed scoring Aubree Slocum and Allie Anderegg giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
Eastern Oregon scored a run in the 2nd inning to cut the NU lead to 3-1, but Eagle pitcher Hannah Yelas settled in and held the Mounties scoreless for four innings until the 6th when Cheyenne Barker singled in Hess. EOU tied the game in the bottom of the 7th when Alex Shuster hit a solo home run to left center field to send the game into extra innings.
 
After four scoreless innings EOU's Maryssa Santi got on base with a one out double to center bringing up Shuster who hit the game winner over the left center field fence to give the Mountaineers the win.
 
Northwest U (11-25, 6-18 CCC) was led by Danielle Bonsky who was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Alyssa Gonzalez scored a run and went 2 for 4 from the plate while teammate Courtney Cox was 2 for 5.
 
The Eagles return to Kirkland and will host Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon in their final home and league games of the season.
