Yotes Come From Behind to Defeat NU in Overtime

Dupree's 25 points wouldn't be enough in the overtime loss tonight
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Closing out games has plagued the Eagles all season and tonight was no exception as the College of Idaho came from behind to tie the game in regulation and would go on to defeat the Eagles 100-89 in overtime tonight in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

Trailing at halftime, 44-35, the Eagles would battle back in the second half as Paul Loranger would hit a baseline jumper to pull NU to within one, 50-49, at the 14:47 mark. Two minutes later, Ben Tucakovic would give NU the lead, 54-53, with his jumper and Tre' Benton's lay-up in the paint would make it a 56-53 game. The game would remain tight the entire second half as the game would see 8 ties. With the score knotted at 74-all, NU would go on a 6-0 run on buckets by Dupree, Martion and Tucakovic to lead 81-75 with 1:38 to go in the game.  But, two straight 3-pointers by the Yotes would make it 83-82 with 25 seconds on the clock. Justice Martion would make 1 out of 2 free throws to put NU ahead 84-82 with 19 seconds, but a foul by Dak Shagren with 5 seconds to go would allow C of I to tie the game. Emanuel Morgan would foul with 2 ticks on the clock, but Michael Dupree would miss the front end of a one and one to send the game into overtime.

Dak Shagren would tie the game at 89-89 at 2:32 in the OT period, but it would be all Yotes from that point on as they would go on a 11-0 run capped off by two Morgan free throws with 20 seconds to go to clinch the come-from-behind win for the C of I. NU shot just 25 per cent in the overtime period while C of I blistered the nets with 75 per cent shooting.

Michael Dupree led the Eagles (16-6, 8-6 CCC) with 25 points with teammate Ben Tucakovic scoring 20 points while grabbing 7 rebounds. Justice Martion scored 15 points with 7 rebounds and Tre' Benton scored 10 adding 9 rebounds for the Eagles. NU shot 52 per cent in the second half, 43 per cent for the game.

"Our inability to close out key games as been our nemesis this season," commented John Van Dyke. "Close losses have been the difference of us being at the top of the league and where we are now. We'll need to rebound tomorrow against a good Eastern Oregon team in La Grande."

The College of Idaho (15-8, 8-5 CCC) was led by Emanuel Morgan's 27 points and 5 assists including a perfect 10 for 10 from the free throw line. Aitor Zubizarreta added 23 points and 11 rebounds and teammate Roosevelt Adams dropped in 21 points pulling down 8 rebounds. The Yotes managed 41 per cent shooting for the game. C of I dominated the boards with a 52-46 rebounding margin.
