NU Comeback Attempt Falls Short to EOU

Tre' Benton led the Eagles with 22 points tonight
Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – For the second night in a row, the Eagles gave up 100 or more points in the 102-91 loss to No. 12 Eastern Oregon tonight on Quinn Court. The loss overshadowed furious comeback by NU which cut the EOU lead to 64-60 at one point in the second half.

Justice Martion's jumper 10 minutes into the first half would make it a 25-22 game with EOU in the lead, but the Mountaineers would reel off 7 straight points accentuated by a dunk by Travis Meeker to lead 32-22 with 8:17 remaining in the half. EOU would then outscore the Eagles 23-12 to push their lead to 21, 55-34, with 38 seconds on the clock to take the lead at the break.

The Eagles would not give in and would come back strong to start the second half to go on a 26-5 run to start the period capped off by Tre' Benton's trey, a lay-up by Ben Tucakovic and a driving lay-up by Kaelan Hicks to cut the EOU lead to four, 64-60, at the 12:02 mark. Tucakovic would make it a 68-65 game with his 3-pointer at 8:42, but that would be the closest NU would be able to get as EOU would hold off the Eagle charge and increase their lead to 83-72 as Blake O'Donnell would get to the basket for a lay-up with 4:35 on the clock. Eastern Oregon would go 13 for 14 from the free throw line in the final 1:43 to hold on for the victory.
