Corban Defense Stymies Eagles

Justice Martion led the Eagles for the second straight game
Box Score SALEM, Ore. – A solid defensive effort by Corban University helped lift them to a convincing 78-55 conference victory over the NU Eagles this afternoon. The Warriors held NU's top four scorers, averaging 57 points per game, to just 27 points today.
 
Northwest U would take their only lead of the game early in the first half as they would break out to a 14-4 led after Justice Martion's offensive put back at the 15 minute mark. Corban would then get back in the game and hold NU's offense to just 8 points over a nine minute span as AJ Monterossi jumper would put the Warriors ahead 26-25 with 6:01 on the clock. Corban would outscore the Eagles 10-6 the remainder of the half to take a 39-31 lead at halftime as NU would shoot 3 for 14 during that stretch.
 
Corban would take advantage of 1 for 7 shooting by the Eagles to start the second half to take a 45-33 lead after two free throws by Jeremiah Harris at the 14:57 mark. NU's cold shooting would continue as Corban's lead would balloon to 63-41 with 7:04 remaining in the game. Michael Dupree, the Eagles leading scorer would finally score his first basket of the game with 2:41 to go in the game, his only basket in 14 attempts.
 
Justice Martion had his second double digit game off the bench for Northwest U (13-4, 5-4 CCC) scoring 14 points and pulling down 4 rebounds. Dak Shagren scored 9 points and led the Eagles with 8 rebounds. NU shot 22 of 68 for 32 per cent and managed just 2 for 22 from the 3-point line for 9 per cent.
 
AJ Monterossi led Corban (11-7, 4-4 CCC) with 14 points while Joel Johnson scored 12 points with 12 rebounds for a double-double. Chris Martin added 13 points and 5 rebounds for the Warriors who enjoyed a 54-41 margin in rebounding with 18 offensive boards.

Corban for a good defensive effort and limiting our second chances. We'll return home, work to improve and prepare for our game at Evergreen on Tuesday."
