EOU Ends Eagles Title Run

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Northwest U gave a great effort today, but in the end it was No. 1 seed, Eastern Oregon, defeating the Eagles 2-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship final this afternoon at Willamalane Park in Springfield. Despite the loss, Northwest claimed the CCC's second automatic qualifier to the NAIA Championships as EOU already owned the first. Both team's will await their first round opponents which will be announced on Nov. 13 at 12 p.m. Eastern time on the NAIA Women's Soccer Selection Show. The opening round of the tournament begins on Nov. 18 at campus sites.
 
The Eagles created opportunities with 14 shots and 5 shots on goal, but EOU's goalkeeper, Cydni Cottrell had a stellar performance making 5 saves to keep NU out of the net today.
 
Eastern Oregon scored both of their goals in the first half with Taylor Boyer scoring unassisted at the 20:44 mark drilling a 25 yard shot passed the NU goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead. A little over three minutes later, Morgan Farrington took Camie Edgington's short cross and put it into the back of the net as the Mountaineers would close out the half with a 2-0 lead.
 
After taking 5 shots in the first half, NU increased their pressure with 8 second half shots with EOU's Cottrell making two saves. One save came in the 79th minute off a shot on goal by Jubilee Zevenbergen. Katie Michkiosky, who scored two goals in yesterday's semifinal, had two back-to-back attempts at 84:24 and 6 seconds later, but her first shot was blocked and the second shot went wide. The EOU defense would hold NU without a shot the remainder of the game.
 
Northwest U (11-9) outshot the Mountaineers 14-8 with Zevenbergen taking 4 shots, 2 shots on goal and Katie Michkiosky getting 3 opportunities. Kat Sanchez made 3 saves in goal for the Eagles.
 
Chelsey Nichol led EOU (13-3-2) with 2 shots, one shot on goal with Cydni Cottrell earning the shutout in goal for the Mounties with her 5 saves.
