Eagles Pull Out Double Overtime Win

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - Kaelan Hicks' tip in off a missed Eagle shot with 3 seconds to go would give Northwest University a 98-96 double overtime win over Southern Oregon tonight in Cascade Conference play.
 
Southern Oregon would break a 17-17 tie with 8:15 left in the first half to lead the rest of the period as they would take a 43-34 first half lead. Kenny Meyer led the Raiders with 14 first half points as Southern Oregon shot 47% from the field and 46% from the 3-point line.
 
The second half would see the Eagles heat up and shoot 51% as they would outscore the Raiders 47-38. Justice Martion offensive rebound and tip-in with 2:16 to go in the game would put NU up 81-78. NU would turn the ball over with 44 second to go and DeSaulnier would tie the game with 7 seconds to go with his 3-pointer from the deep corner.
 
Tanner Davis 3-point play with 3:21 to go in the first overtime would give NU a 86-82 lead, but SOU would come back going 4-for-4 from the free throw line to tie the game at 86-all with 59 seconds to go. After a steal and lay-up by SOU's Tristan Holmes, the Raiders would take an 88-86 lead with 38 seconds left. Justice Martion would miss a jumper, but Jasdeep Singh would follow with a tip-in to tie the game at 88-88 as Holmes' jumper would miss the mark as time would expire.
 
 
NU would take a 96-94 lead with 1:02 to go in the second overtime period, but after two Justice Martion missed free throws with 34 seconds left, Ben DeSaulnier would sink two free throws for SOU to tie the game at 96-96 with 20 ticks on the clock. Following an Eagle timeout, Tanner Davis would miss a driving lay-up but Kaelan Hicks would come in from the left side to tip the ball it would one second left.
 
 
Justice Martion led Northwest U (8-5, 2-1 CCC) with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Jasdeep Singh scored 20 points with 8 rebounds while another freshman, Tanner Davis, scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Senior guard, Kaelan Hicks, added 15 points and 8 rebounds
 
Southern Oregon (7-4, 2-1 CCC) was led by Kenny Meyer who scored 18 points and Ben DeSaulnier's 17 points and 8 rebounds. Conor Carroll added 16 for the Raiders. Tristan Holmes and Aaron Borich both scored 13 points for the Raiders.
 
"Both teams gave a great effort and played through exhaustion," said NU had coach, Jeff Drinkwine. "I'm really proud of our guys who battled for 40 minutes plus two overtimes and found a way to pull out the victory."
 
Next Up: Northwest U remains at home and will host Oregon Tech tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. in the NU Pavilion.
