Box Score SALEM, Ore. – Corban University came back in the second half to hand Northwest U a 76-66 loss tonight in Cascade Conference play.
With the Eagles leading 55-48 with 9:05 remaining in the game, the Warriors would mount a comeback, outscoring NU on an 8-0 run to take a 56-55 lead which they would hold onto the remainder of the game to earn the win.
The two teams battled through a close first half which would see three ties and five lead changes. With 10:36 to go in the half, and the game tied at 15-15, Corban would go on a 14-0 run to take a 29-15 lead with 4:40 showing on the clock. Justice Martion would pull the Eagles to within 8, 33-25 with 58 seconds left in the period and Tanner Davis would follow with a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left to make it a 33-28 score at halftime.
Trailing 35-31 early in the second half, the Eagles would go on a 9-2 run as Jasdeep Singh would score on a lay-up to make it a 40-37 NU lead. The Eagles would maintain the lead until the 9:05 mark when Corban would make their run to regain the lead for good.
Northwest U (8-7, 2-3 CCC) was led by Tre Benton's 17 points followed by Kaelan Hicks' 16 points and 6 rebounds. Tanner Davis would add 12 points and Justice Martion scored 11 for the Eagles who shot 39% for the game. NU hit 6 of 21 3-point attempts (29%) and converted just 8 of 16 free throws for 50%.
Joel Johnson led Corban (9-5, 3-3 CCC) with a team high 15 points and 6 rebounds. Teammate Caleb Dozier scored 14 points adding 9 rebounds and Beau Roggenbach had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Corban shot 45% for the game, but managed just 25% from beyond the 3-point line.
Next Up: The Eagles will be in Eugene, Ore., Saturday night for their final game of the year with Northwest Christian at 7:30 p.m. before returning to Kirkland.
