NU Improves to 19-8 with Victory Over Lions

Dupree scored 21 points in 25 minutes of play.
Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eagle men moved one game closer to a 20-win season with a convincing 103-51 conference victory over Multnomah University tonight on Jim Skagen Court. NU improves to 19-8 for the year with one game to play and it was the seventh time the Eagles hit the century mark this season.

The Lions from Portland played the Eagles tough in the first nine minutes of the game, but Kaelan Hicks' driving lay-up would put NU up 20-10 at the 11:37 mark. NU would then heat up and outscore the Lions 27-12 over the next 10 minutes and Justice Martion would get to the basket to give NU their largest lead of 25, 47-22, with 1:27 left in the half. Morgan Ball would drill a deep 3-pointer as the buzzer would sound to give NU a 52-25 lead at halftime.

The Eagles would continue to pull away from the Lions in the second half and a lay-up followed by two free throws by Justice Martion would give NU a 42 point, 73-31 lead at the 13:15 mark.  The large lead would allow Coach Van Dyke to begin resting his starters with 10 minutes to go in the game as the NU bench would make a solid contribution on the night scoring 54 of the Eagles' 103 points while holding the MU bench to just 22. Jaden Jenkins would put the exclamation mark on the game with his 3-pointer with 1:52 remaining to give NU their largest lead of 102-49.

Michael Dupree led the Eagles (19-8, 11-8 CCC) scoring 21 points in 25 minutes of play. Ben Tucakovic and Kaelan Hicks each scored 11 with Justice Martion adding 10 points. NU hit 41 of 80 shots for 51 per cent including 14 of 26 from beyond the 3-point line for 54 per cent. The Eagles dominated the rebounding with a 58-39 margin.

Multnomah U (6-23, 2-17 CCC) was led by Moe Keita's 16 points and 10 rebounds. Darius Redrick was the only other Lion in double figures with 11 points. MU shot a cool 17 for 70 for 24 per cent and just 7 per cent from the 3-point line going 2 for 30.

"I was pleased again with our effort and the level of intensity we started the game tonight," said John Van Dyke, NU head coach. "The way we start each game sets the level of effort we want to maintain the entire game and that leads to consistent play. I also like the way our team is playing together and moving the ball. 14 assists indicates we're playing unselfishly. We need to finish off the regular season strong."
