Box Score 2 HILLSBORO, Ore. – The NU Eagles earned a split with the Corban Warriors in this afternoon's doubleheader and earned a 3-1 conference win in the first game. Corban came back to take the second game 8-2.
Game 1 – Northwest U 3, Corban 1
The Eagles handed Corban their first conference loss of the season with a 3-1 victory in Hillsboro Stadium this afternoon.
Stephanie Granger scattered 7 hits in the circle and the NU defense was solid behind her, especially in the later innings to earn the win.
NU took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 2
nd inning after back-to-back singles by
Savannah Rush and
Maggie Harshaw with one out scored Rush on a fielder's choice when
Alicia Loiler grounded out.
Cara Cristion then came through with a single to right to drive in Harshaw.
Granger and the Eagle defense would hold Corban scoreless for five innings and would score another run in the 4
th inning on smart base running by
Allie Anderegg who walked, stole second base and advanced to third on a ground out. She then scored on a throwing error by Corban to put NU up 3-0.
Corban would be unable to score in the 4
th 5
th and 6
th inning leaving runners on base as the Eagle defense would prevent a Warrior score. The Warriors opened the bottom of the 7
th with a double, but Granger would strike out, get another to line out and end the game with a put out at second.
Northwest U 6-9, 2-4 CCC) was led by
Alicia Loiler and
Cara Cristion who both went 1 for 3 from the plate with one RBI each.
Savannah Rush scored a run and was 2 or 3 for the game. Granger picked up the win going 7 innings, giving up just one run on 7 hits in facing 29 Corban batters.
Sam Woodley and Maddy Melton led the way for Corban (16-2, 5-1 CCC) with Woodley going 2 for 3 and Melton batting 2 for 4 for the Warriors. Sabrina Boyd took the loss in the circle for Corban giving up 3 runs on 6 hits.
Game 2 – Corban 8, Eagles 2
Corban scored early and late while pitcher, Allie Mendez, pitched a four hitter as the Warriors took game two of today's doubleheader, 8-2. Corban scored in the first, third and fifth inning to lead the entire way.
The Warriors got one run in the first inning when Taylor Eilders led off with a single and later scored on a double to left by Iris Rodriguez. Corban got two more runs in the 3
rd inning on a two run double by Allie Mendez.
NU got on the scoreboard in the 4
th and 5
th innings when
Allie Anderegg led off the 4
th inning with a double to left field. She moved to third on a ground out and then scored when
Maggie Harshaw grounded out to the short stop.
Courtney Heard would score the other NU run in the 5
th inning after reaching base on a single and then score on a throwing error by Corban cutting the Warrior lead to 3-2.
Corban would come right back in their half of the 5
th inning with 5 runs on 4 hits which would put the game out of reach for the Eagles. Chaleigh Kirkwood would come up with a two run single as one of the key hits of the inning.
NU would be unable to score in the 6
th and 7
th innings leaving a runner on base in each inning.
Courtney Heard was 2 for 3 and scored a run for Northwest U (6-10) while
Rachel Hawley took the loss in the circle going 5 innings, giving up 8 runs on 9 hits.
Allie Anderegg scored once and went 1 for 3 from the plate for NU.
Corban (17-2) was led by Allie Mendez who was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Iris Rodriguez went 1 for 3, scored a run and had 2 RBIs and Chaleigh Kirkwood was 1 for 1 with 2 RBI's. Allie Mendez pitched 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits to get the win in the circle.
