Raiders Take Two from Eagles

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BOTHELL, Wash. – Southern Oregon maintained their hold on first place in the Cascade Conference with a sweep of today's doubleheader over Northwest University, winning 7-3 and 11-0 (5 inns.). SOU improves to 7-2 in CCC play while NU drops to 2-6. The games were moved to Cedar Park High School in Bothell as the outfield at Lake Washington High School in Kirkland was deemed unplayable by game umpires.
 
Game 1 – Southern Oregon used an 11 hit attack to take game one of the doubleheader, 7-3, and with solid pitching from Gabby Sandoval and relief pitching by Victoria Mackey. Victoria Mackey was solid in relief for SOU pitching three innings and giving up just one Northwest U hit. Sandoval pitched the first 4 innings giving up three runs on 6 Eagle hits.
 
Tied 3-3 after 3 innings, SOU took the lead in the 4th inning as they brought three runs on 3 hits across the plate capped off by a 2-run home run by Taylor Martinez. Rebecca Velasquez singled in the other Raider run to put SOU up 6-3.
 
The Raiders added an insurance run in the top of the 6th inning when Kayleen Smith singled in Kelsey Randall who had singled and stole second base.
 
Aubrey Slocum led Northwest U (6-11, 2-5 CCC) going 2 for 4 and scoring a run. Savannah Rush was 1 for 3 with one RBI. Stephanie Granger pitched 6 innings, taking the loss in the circle as she gave up 10 hits and 7 runs facing 32 batters.
 
Southern Oregon 19-4, 6-1 CCC) was led by Taylor Martinez's 1 for 2 game at the plate, scoring one run with 2 RBIs with her home run. Kelsey Randall was 3 for 4, scored a run and added a RBI and Kayleen Smith was 2 for 4, scored 2 runs and had 1 RBI. Gabby Sandoval earned the win for the Raiders.
 
Game 2 – Karlee Coughlin threw a two hitter while Davalin Ontiveros hit a grand slam home run to lead the Raiders to a 5 inning, 11-0 shutout over Northwest U.
 
Ontiveros' grand slam came in an 8 run first inning as SOU jumped on NU starter Rachel Hawley for 8 runs on 5 hits. The Raiders got two more runs in the third inning on run scoring singles by Harlee Donovan and Rebecca Velasquez and one run in the 4th to put the game away.
 
Coughlin had a perfect game going until the Eagles' half of the 4th inning when NU pinch hitter, Carly Tighe hit a double to left field to break up the no-no. Savannah Rush hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the 5th inning for the Eagles' second hit of the game.
 
Rachel Hawley took the loss for Northwest U (6-12, 2-6 CCC) while Hannah Yelas came in relief and pitched 4.1 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits.
 
In addition to Ontiveros' grand slam and 4 RBIs, Kayleen Smith and Harlee were both 2 for 3 and each had 2 RBIs. Kelsey Randall was 2 for 3, scored twice and added one RBI for the Raiders. Coughlin went 5 innings, gave up two hits, no walks and struck out 6 for the win.
 
The two teams will try to get two more games in on Sunday if playing conditions allow the games to be played at Lake Washington High School. If not, one game will be played at Cedar Park Christian HS in the afternoon.
